The Warrington-born defender is free to leave the club this summer on a Bosman free transfer but the Crewe Alexandra boss would be keen for the experienced 25-year-old to remain at the South Cheshire club.

That scenario looks unlikely though after Foster rejected the club's offers of a new deal and Dario is resigned to the fact that he is set to lose another of his Academy graduates on a free transfer. If as expected Foster is offered a more lucrative deal elsewhere, he will follow his former team-mates Richard Walker and Kenny Lunt through the exit door this summer.

Dario told the club's official web-site: "Foz has allowed his contract to come to an end, so we know he is unlikely to sign a new one when he has had the opportunity to do so in the past.

"He will be a free transfer and I fully expect him to go his own way this summer and move on but nothing ever surprises me and I'm not totally ruling him out. He is still training with us and I've already said that he would be keen to keep him, if he wanted to stay.
"We haven't really spoken about his situation because I assume he is going and if he does then he goes with our best wishes because he has been terrific for us."
