<div class="articleHeadlineAndBody" id="articleHeadlineAndBody"><h3 class="headline">BRUCE REACTION TO OAKWELL DEFEAT </h3><div class="articleBody" id="articleBody"> Steve Bruce has paid tribute to the incredible army offans that travelled to Barnsley to support the side today and he admitted that they should have had at least a goal to celebrate after Blues created a host of chances only to come away with nothing.</p> It was a day to forget in South Yorkshire as Bruce's team failed to convert any of a number of opportunities and the hosts clinched victory courtesy of Daniel Nardiello's second half strike.</p> "I am wracked with disappointment, especially for the travelling support which was fantastic today," said Bruce. </p> "When you see that number of fans away from home, it's a pity we couldn't get a goal because if we had I am sure we'd have gone on to win the game.</p> "But our Achilles heal over the last few weeks is that we haven't been free enough to score a goal.</p> "We have come to Barnsley today with as an attacking line-up as I could possibly pick but we have just missed chance after chance after chance.</p> "That's the problem that we have given ourselves; for all the play and all the good things we do, if we don't score a goal then we're not going to win the game.</p> "I have to admit that we looked a bit nervous in the first half but after the break we have come out and could have got three before making the mistake that led to the break that they got.</p> "Although for all the chances we had, I can't remember their goalkeeper having to make a save.</p> "We were so good before the turn of the year with our attacking momentum but the stats over the last few months don't lie."</p> It was a second consecutive defeat for Bruce's charges after Saturday's home reversal to Burnley to complete a miserable Bank Holiday weekend.</p> "We have had an absolutely atrocious Easter, to get no points from Burnley or Barnsley is a big kick in the teeth for us and we are very, very disappointed," continued Bruce.</p> "We have got a lot of young players for whom it is the first time in this situation and I'm not trying to make excuses by that.</p> "Although I have to give a big pat on the back to the youngest player on the pitch today, Muamba, who I thought was absolutely sensational."</p> Bruce added: "Now all the hard work that we've put in over the last 10 months comes down to five games.</p> "It's not in our hands now but we can do ourselves a big favour if we can get a result next weekend.</p> "Derby didn't win either, so we're still in there and we have got to come out fighting and think that surely if we keep creating as many chances as that then we'll get a positive result."</p> Blues now prepare for Saturday's must-win game at home to fellow promotion hopefuls Southampton at St. Andrew's when Bruce hopes to have loan signing Andy Cole available to make his debut.</p> Bruce said: "Andy was here again today which was terrific, he feels part of it and he is desperately disappointed because he probably looked at the chances today and thought, give me a few of them."</p></div></div>
He was furious with his strikers today! Think it was a miss by Campbell that made him throw the water bottle! Loved being sat near him and watching him squirm
agreed I mean we only created more chances than them and our <strike>striker </strike>attacking midfielder scored a great goal !!!!
He didn't even know who'd scored for us! Bloke asked him what he thought of our goal - he said great finish and sasked who it was! Said he wished his strikers finished like that
hmmmmm.... <font size="7">nardiello !!!!!!</font></p> <font size="2">you Mrs Doubtfire look a like.</font></p> <font size="2">Oh and Sunderland and Derby for automatic, and WBA to do you in the playoffs.</font></p> <font size="2">I fecking hate Brum and their thug fans !!!</font></p>
Actually... Whinging, cheating t*sser... It's his encouragement of his dirty, mardy-arsed, can't stand losing squad of overpaid losers that's gonna see Hassell banned. Failing to control his players? Step forward Mr Steve Bruce... The kick, grab, whine, lunge, intimidate the ref tactics all stem from him. Not that today's ref needed much intimidating...
Exactly what I thought when reading that. Was expecting a bit of summat near the bottom, but obviously none was forecoming.</p>
RE: Exactly what I thought when reading that. To be fair to the ref i really thought he was going to look to give Brum an important decision i.e. penalty and he didnt, yes he was one sided in some minor fouls to them but he didnt bow to the pressure of their fans or Steve Bruce (the moaning lovely person)
True... But considering what he booked Togwell for he had a serious problem with spotting dangerous, lunging two-footed challenges perpetrated agin Town players. They surrounded him a couple of times, screaming and bawling - should've booked 'em straight away...
Being honest.... I usually am the biggest critic of ref's at oakwell, I always think we get very little help from them. But today, apart from some minor stuff, I thought he was spot on, and the best ref we've had at Oakwell for some time.</p> Although in the first half, Toggers' booking was beyond me.</p>
i think togwells booking was for lots of little fouls rather than one bad/dangerous foul but i didnt think the foul that he ended up getting booked for was a foul in the first place
RE: Togwell was clearly booked for dissent nt Which is, sorta, my point - how much whinging and complaining did they do? Surrounded the ref on at least one occassion - any bookings, naw...
Difference being... He was already on a final warning mate. HOWEVER... on the point of yellow cards, they should have had 3 or 4.
RE: Difference being... And for much more dangerous offences - two-footed lunges and the like... I don't think the ref was in any way the worse this season but, all in all, they did better out of him than we did...
I thought Togwell was booked for repetitive fouling - he pointed to a few places on the pitch, Togwell didn't say anything (was sat in line with it) and then the ref pulled out the yellow card, to Togwell's surprise.
Yeah i agree it was for multiple things but some of the challenges they did and didnt get booked for was shocking
