Tonight on Radio Sheffield Steve Evans asked Rob Staton to ask fans to phone in with ideas on which striker he could bring in with a budget of £250k.Loads of fans rang in with players names and Evans even gave his assessment via phone to Rob. If Flitcroft did the same who would you be asking him to sign?
Re: and I would hope we would not be so stupid as to answer I don't think it was all that serious but nice for the manager to be interactive with the fans.
He said "great creator of goals, but not a great finisher.. top top player nonetheless" of Marlon Harewood.
what I meant was that its absurd that we have only £250k. I somehow think we have quite a lot more than that.
Hard one as of course there are no strikers proven at this level who would be available at that price. Currently I'd be content with Scotland on a free and a quick young striker on loan from one of the top 6 clubs. Maybe that young lad at Liverpool, his name escapes me. Other than that, Billy McKay at Inverness might be worth a try, out of contract in the summer, or Tom Pope.
Marlon is the man. He starts converting these chances (same for Daggers) and we've got the best strike duo in the world.
My point wasn't that he's had a **** career. My point was that we would snap their hand off to sell a striker for £250k at his age and stage of his career. That's half what we got for Vaz Te!
Think the Scottish league may be the way to go. I'd think a lot of players would be willing to try their hand in the English leagues. I like the look of that Michael Higdon fella at Motherwell. Don't know much about him, but what i've seen of him i've been impressed. Powerful lad who knows where the net is. According to Wikipedia, he played for Crewe until he was 21 and wasn't too prolific, but he's hit the ground running in the last few years for Motherwell, he's on 15 goals in 22 games this season.
