Get him signed.... ...was mentioned on here earlier this week. If he wants to come back up north then I'm sure he'd be very interested in signing for us. Out of favour there so wouldn't cost much as I presume their first priority will be to get him off the wage bill. Ideal for Hume to play off. Come on Simon, you know it makes sense, especially with Miguel having returned to Peru, the need for another striker is even more pressing.
RE: Hold your horses ...the need for a striker at our place is paramount if we're to rise above mid-table. Only Ross McCormack is scoring and we've now got Eddie Johnson from Fulham. I'd rather have Eddie Yates from Corrie.
But there's no way I'd go back for Steve McClean. Came here with a big reputation after his exploits up the road from you but there's simply no goals in him as far as I'm concerned. Spent far too much of his time out wide and rarely seemed to venture into the box. Missed his 1st ever pen for us - and never took another.
3 or 4 goals a season imo.

RE: Hold your horses Did he spend a lot of him time out wide due to the manager's tactics, or does he just lack positional sense? Was he ever given a consistant run in the team? Anyway, if he does notch 4 in a season that's still more than Odejayi managed in the league for us last term. Should fit right in!
RE: Hold your horses Not down to tactics imo as we were playing with 2 wingers anyway. He seemed to like to be involved in the build up play but not interested inside the box. Strange for a striker although we've had a few like that - Alan Lee was another but there was definately more about him than MacLean.
He was given a fair run in the team as Steve Thompson had been placed on the list but his lack of goals (or even attempts on goal)put paid to his place in the team. Ironically, Thompson took it. We signedMacLean on a free & when Plymouth came in with £500k on the table he had to go.

RE: Hold your horses Interesting. Does seem like he's been drifting in his career a but since he left Wednesday, which I hadn't realised. Maybe he needs something to kick-start his career, although in my experience (as a BFC fan at least!), once the goals dry up for a striker it seems pretty hard for him to get back on the goal trail. Sheron and Macken both spring to mind as examples who had a prolific season or two (not with us), but never quite managed to maintain that form. Don't get me wrong, I like Macken alot. As for Sheron on the other hand, don't get me started!
RE: Hold your horses We've had LOADS of those over the years.
Ronnie Moore - prolific before he came to us. Got to the stage where people were wearing "I saw Ronnie Moore score!" badges. Ended up as centre half.
Tony Philiskirk. Again big reputation and still regarded by Bolton fans as one of their best ever. Like Moore, ended up as center half.
Jeff Chandler. What is it with ex-Bolton strikers. Just crap.
Steve Lynex. Ask any Cardiff fan his nickname and you'll get the ironic answer - Lethal.
Andy Saville. Lower league scoring record to die for - and we were in the lower leagues. Unfortunately he just died.
Leo Fortune West. About 6'3" and could jump to 5'10". Couldn't run, pass, tackle or shoot & a head like a 50 pence piece - when he actually headed it. His timing of a header was something to behold - either way too early or way too late. The fact that when not playing he wore industrial strength glasses may have had something to do with that though.
And, unfortunately, theres a lot more than that - I was just thinking of the Northern ones that may strike a chord with you!

did ronnie have a hat on ? usually back to front ?? oh and andy saville.... always liked him when he played for us ! diving header in the last minute away at sheffied utd one year to win the game 2-1 makes him a legend anyhow....
Andy Saville..... Proper Oakwell legend!!! Forgot he played for you guys. Not the most gifted but a really hard worker, good in the air and a real team player. Chipped in with a few goals and even played in the nets one match if I remember correctly! Not sure what he'd look like in today's second tier as the standard has improved so much, but as a kid Saville was one of my proper faves. Although that could be the rose-tinted glasses coming out!
Andy Saville did ok for us, remember him scoring a beauty header....... at Bumhole Lane against the Blunts.
Savilles dead?? jesus dint know that he was a decent player for us. Rammell and Saville, proper front two.
