Could have had no complaints if Hassell & Austin were named in it as well. Worked like Trojans on saturday.

Steve McPhail .....I dare let him kick my arse......cos yer know he's gunner miss

He reminds me of The Crab (Ray Wilkins)
He's got all that passing ability but he dosen't hurt the opposition enough
We have some quick lads up front and he should be pushing those 10 or 20 yard passes through the defence to them so they are in on goal
But what does he do? gets the ball spins round and ultimatly passes the ball sideways
Good skill but lacks a football brain or heart or both

errrm

no he does not?

out off all the players we have he is the only one who can shrugg a man off and not belt the ball 100 yards in any direction, what do you want him to do, beat a man and then ping a pin point through ball everytime?

is it not a coincedence that when he players our passing game is 100% better? name me any other midfielder who drops deep for the ball so the defence don't just have to knock a long ball?

RE: errrm.........that will be Kay

Although Kay has not got the passing ability of McPhail - Kay uses the ball more directly and 'hurts' defences more because he is looking to get the forwards in on goal
McPhail does a spinning motion on his right leg while using his left leg to control the ball - in the mean time while he his balancing the ball on the end of his toe the forwards are stareing at him wondering what he is going to do
As soon as McPhail gets the ball there should be wingers and forwards raceing into space to receive the pass......THERE ISN'T !!! .....Why ?

Have a good think about it ...

... we employee two attacking wingers.
We aim to score our goals from the flanks.
This puts pressure on the central midfield, who have to keep hold of the ball ...

... ballax to it, I give up.

Say that again.....more slowly...because what you have said is this

We have attacking wingers
That are raceing down the wing into space
We have quick forwards
That are raceing through the middle into space

And you are suggesting the central midfielder holds the ball up !!!
This dunt mek sence at all
What I am saying is this - as soon as McPhail picks the ball up in the oppositions half there should be an explosion of running off the ball by our wingers and front men
At the moment there isn't WHY ?
My oppinion is that the front runners know thay are unlikely to receive the ball from McPhail if they do run into space

That is something we should work on. If we always go down the wings we can be stopped as proven. So we need to have a different approach.

To be fair ...

... Ireally can't be bothered explaining - and I'm honestly not being sarcastic or anything.

Generally speaking - if you have two attacking wide men, who obviously like to get forward, then your cebtral midfielders have to cover a lot of ground.
The space left by the wingers is usually where teams get hit on the counter attack - so the tactic is to try to not give the ball away too much ... i.e- play a possession game.

I fully understand what you are saying - but to play in a more direct manner would mean the wide men holding back & our central midfielders 'kicking on' to get on the end of the knock downs.

I just read all that out of a book.

You are probably right, or summat.

becos...

its our wingers and strikers that haven't got a feckin clue what mcP is going to do. Their brain does NOT match his ability.

Fair credit to disco, he goes for it. Shuker, would rather try and hold hands with bobby hassle. That lad does not know how to make darting runs FORWARDS beyond the half way line to receive a ball.

RE: errrm.........that will be Kay

Do you go to the games? donny away, kay in midfield had a nightmare becasue he is a defender pure and simple, if he is more direct thats becasue he knocks balls over the top, i'm not knocking the lad, one of my players of the season but are you trying to tell me that the forwards do not make runs when mcphail is on the ball becasue they think he will not pass to them?

Shuker, Deveaney, Hayes (when 1st joined, not now) and Nards are the players that don't always pick the runners out, again not knocking them becasue it is in there game to go for glory themselves, but Mcphail is the only link we have between defence and midfield, just becasue he is the best passer of the ball does not mean he plays killer balls in, look at Alonso at liverpool, regarded as the best passer in the prem yet gerrard plays more killer plays in, why? becasue alonso's game is about keeping it simple, shrugging off the opposition and laying off the simple pass or spreading the play, Mcphail is the same!

(before anyone says it i'm not saying alonso and mcphail are the same quality as each other, just using as an example :)

If you are seriously comparing anything about McPhail, with anything about Alonso, you have a serious problem. IMHO of course!

McPhail is a class player and we are a set of headless chickens without him. Jacob Burns does a lot of work ,which is important, but he can't pass. Having two players in the centre of midfield running around like nutters will not create an awful lot and make the game even scrappier.

People who reckon McPhail is lazy have not been watching the past 6 months (except the 6 weeks he was out injured and the first week back!) he has increased his workload immensely. It may be that his role is slightly different wherby he carries the ball forward more than previously.

Take him out of the side and we are ordinary at best!
