One of my childhood heroes gone. I will always remember, aged 10, seeing the video for Fade To Grey on TV and being completely in awe and slightly scared. This was at a time when you couldn't just watch the thing again - you could only ask at school the next day if anyone had seen it, making it even more mysterious. I loved that period where art school types made records. It was very interesting. I still own Visage's first two LPs. RIP Steve, a real British cultural icon.
I remember the fade to grey video too and talking about it at school. I was never a big fan, I was into The Jam, The Specials, Bad Manners, Madness, etc but he certainly was iconic. RIP Steve.
Me too and I'll be playing them today. He was part of the punk scene which soon burnt itself out, spawning the new wave and new romantic era. Outrageous posing and posturing but all the better for it, exciting sounds and styles epitomised by Visage. Another of my heroes gone.
My age... blinking heck. Loved fade to grey Also he is on the Ashes to Ashes video that accompanied David Bowie's hit
