I know he divides opinion but I'm genuinely gutted his career is coming to an end. I know time has caught up with him but at his best he was by far and away my favourite non-BFC player. Thumping tackles, lung busting runs, surging past players like they weren't even there and scoring 30 yards screamers for fun. Liverpool wouldn't have won anything without him. Just a shame successive England managers stuck him in a holding role for so many years. He was a one off in the modern game and I can't see us seeing that type of player again, which is a huge shame IMO.

you have to hand it to him - he was like a poor man's accident prone Neil Redfearn.

Gerrard ....awesome player and only some clowns on forums like this cannot recognise or acknowledge it.

however it is hardly suprising that there ain't much sense spouted on footy forums.....apart from thereev obviously

Great player for Liverpool, rubbish for England. He didn't always play the holding role and rarely shined for the 3 lions. Scholes and Lampard were better attacking midfielders.

I thought Gerrard was always better than Lampard and half the problem was we never had a manager with the courage to choose between them. Pissed me off.

Lampard's goalscoring record can't be argued with. He's got a record better than a lot of decent strikers.

If you discount the two footed challenges he got away with nearly every week, and of course his off field antics - lovely fella i'm sure.

Don't get me wrong - Lampard was a good player and i could understand the argument for him over Gerrard - but i always felt it was a choice between them and it was a mistake to try to somehow make two players who are so similar in the same side. For me i'd choose Gerrard, but for the sake of the team I'd have dropped Gerrard and player Lampard instead of both.

Check out their records/stats/medals etc (anything you want really) then come back here and show me why Gerrard is so obviously better.

NB - You'll not find anything.

Admittedly though Gerrard was a much better RB than Lampard. I'll give you that.

I've no allegiance to fat frank but he was a better player than Gerrard, and so was Scholes. That doesn't mean Gerrard was crap.

Thought Lampard was brilliant too, BUT if you swapped them do you think Liverpool would still have won what they did over the last decade and that Chelsea wouldn't have won what they did? I'm not sure

RIP Thereev, I think we've lost him due to lack of breath, would anyone on here like to say a few words on this sad loss?
