While the signing of a genuine 'box office' player has brought some excitement, I'm still struggling to feel too optimistic about our prospects for next year. The abject performances of a poor group of players are still fresh in my memory. Most of those players are still with us, and barring any magical transformation over the summer are still likely to be out of their depth. Mido is a totally unexpected signing - I can scarcely think of anyone with a less suitable DNA for Hillflicker. But I question his motives, fitness, and attitude - and maybe even ability these days. Mellis was a poor loan signing, bar maybe 2 good games. Nouble wasn't any better second time around, so I'm not sure re-signing Robins' failures represents progress. And finally Etuhu... He might have potential, but that could be said of any number of younger players that haven't made it at big clubs. In short, I still think we're facing a very difficult season ahead. Especially with such a poor defence. Hope I'm wrong though!
The end of last season was as bad as I can remember in 25 years of supporting but if we can assemble a new team and cut the dreck then we've got a punchers chance of doing summat. If we can get some more players in next week (Futacs? Fryatt? Butterfield? Centre half) then I may well have to wring out my y-fronts.
bloody 'ell, cheer up mate. I am looking forward to the new season. god knows how we will do but I am sure there will be plenty of entertainment along the journey.
Why is it that when anyone dares to say that they still have concerns, they are rounded on and pilloried? This forum is an open forum where other people are allowed to have their own opinions, if you disagree , fair enough, but please dont just have a pop at them, its like everyone is turning into hemsworth-tykes!!!!
It is even more worrying that no one has said I'm wrong. I was hoping you'd try to convince me we're about to have a fantastic season.
The quality of our defence is enough to outweigh any positives of the past week, even more so when 'Keef' reckons he isnt interested in strengthening that area of the squad!
Until we see what squad we have to work with next season, we just don't know. Personally ... I think we'll do alright.
Exactly. It took him a season to get used to this level and then in his second year he'd have got POTY if he'd have been able to keep fit more. His new contract is great news. Now lets hope the likes of Done, McNulty, Davies etc come on from a full season at this level
Really? I thought he said someone like Greer at Brighton was 'exactly what we need'? I'm 99% sure we'll have a new centre back before the season starts.
