Central Defence...........we've got Reid but is he really up to the job? He looks slow.
Atkinson looks as though he could be a good un but he needs breaking into the first team steady
    Hassels too little.
So as far as I'm concerned we still aint got a central defence.

Goalkeeper cover, or even another first team choice.
Colgans a good shot stopper but he dosen't command his area (a taxi driver said the same thing to me in a taxi in Dublin last week). So it seems this is a well known fact.

Striker..............OK we have two big lads up front so we can play one or the other. But we have only got one nippy striker now Nardiello has gone. So we haven't anybody there to replace Mostto if he gets injured.
We could do with another striker.

    So thats 4 players short.

Agree we need a Central defender. For me Hassell played well at CB, and at Hillsborough he commanded the box well and won everything. For his height, he wins a fair share of the ball.

A decent keep who commands his area will be great, just a shame Colgan can't do both.

    I think that's a fair assessment

With those particular positions strengthened , I don't think we'd be involved in another relegation battle .

Some cover for Howard in the centre would be nice aswell, don't see any creativity there at all should he get injured.

    Creativity

Yes, I agree, it did cross my mind that, but with the number of central midfielders we have I think the creativity will be soley from the wings this season i.e. Howard playing out wide

    RE: Creativity

If Howard gets stuck out wide then I'm worried already. He's twice the player in the centre.

fair points but if we do get the German Keeper and maybe Nyatanga plus one other forward we are looking good to go in my opinion. Howard and Johnson in centre mid for me, with disco on one wing and Ricketts on the other. Hassle, Reid, Nyatanga and Kozluck at the back, Miguel and Istvan upfront.

    Kinell fire.

    I fully agree.
Two centre halves, a keeper & striker required.

Have you not taken your mentalist tablets today?

if we start the season with the current central defence then we will be in big trouble, im getting a bit concerned now.

    Yes.

We seem to have signed some players who can play Championship football - which is always a bonus when you're a Championship club.

It's all pointless though if Paul Reid is out on the park against Coventry on Aug 11th.
He'll get the run around from the Malteaser bloke again.
    Get ready.

    Two centre halves.
    Just that.

    RE: Yes.

it helps when you dont pay over the odds, Im hoping we got that 750kbenchmark striker for £400k.

    £2million for Freddie Eastwood? jesustrulywept.

DH will need to stand on his seat to be able to see over the top of our keeper.

    To be fair ...

... Simon seems to have a pretty poor hit rate.

Istvan - great at the start ... jury out.
McCann - looks like a joey.
    Lewin - great loan signing.
Rajczi - looked rubbish, but I think he'll probably do well somewhere.
    Kyel Reid - balloon boy.
Eckersley - flying pig of *****.
    Mattis - looks useless.

If anything - our best players were already at the club.
I just hope he has more success with the new crop - as, on paper, they seem to be much better than the last lot.

RE: To be fair ...............emergency signings

After the debacle of Ritchie not wanting to sign anybody, Davey came in and had to bring a load of emergency signings into the club and this was half way through the season

OK, accepted, most didn't work out.
But Istvan and McCann seem to be good signings
And Mattis, even though he has not played much, and as come under a lot of stick........could well develop into a really good player.
And these are the players that remain at the club........the others you mention have gone

    RE: To be fair ...

competition for places tho innit? as opposed to having to play your left back in centre midfield for your most important game of the season, this year we stick a fighting chance of fielding 11 footballers in every game.

some of the new lads will work out, some probably wont. cant fault Daveys assessment of the crop we let go/kept, Kay aside.....

    Competition for places...............not yet acheived

If you look at the Official Site and look at the squad
Yes, it does look miles better than last season at this time
    BUT
Its still a very small squad
There's a lot of names on the list but the list is made up of young lads
Take out the tried and tested players and you are looking at 14 or 15 players
If we want competition for places we need more than this
