We shafted ourselves, if anything. Not their fault if he wasn't on a long enough contract and/or we accepted a bid that was too low.
Stones needs to be a banned topic on here until he goes to Barca for £50m and we're celebrating about our %10 sell on clause
In Barca to watch the game tomorrow. Pub had Everton v Man City on Arab Tv. V Proud watching JS, consummate performance, calm, collected, marshalled his team-mates and every pass to a team-mate. Got booked for the best tackle I've seen in 5 yrs but M***** A******n was ref. V Proud.
There's an argument he's the best centre back in England at the minute with how bad Terry & Cahill's looked in the past few weeks. Surely first choice centre back alongside Cahill for England now? He's better than Jones & all the Everton fans seem to favour him over Jagielka
I'd say he's close to being one of the first names on the England team sheet now but then again we all know how differently Roy can see things. Surely a big move is imminent.
But I don't understand what people were expecting. He was an 18 year old lad with 25 professional games under his belt. He could have gone to Everton, at in their reserves for 18 months then gone out on loan, like Butterfield just before him. Nobody knew how successful Stones was going to be, especially so quickly. £3 million plus add ons is one hell of a fee for a player with 25 pro games under his belt.
I don't think it is a massive fee in these times, it should be though! The defender at Ipswich, Mings is getting spoke about as a £10m player & I wouldn't say he's looked any better than Stones at that level, obviously not seen him as much but I'd say there comparable. I just think we got bullied by the big boys. 'Little old Barnsley will sell him for half what he's worth, there crowds are under 10k, they need the money' etc.
It was our decision to take the valuation. I think we should have held out for much more. When some average defenders were going for 5m at the time in the Championship I think we could have got more.
There's also another Ipswich player who's 17, played 11 career games and they're talking about spurs offering 10 million for him.
I wonder who at the club actually made the decision. The manager? Don, Barry, Patrick or James' copy of microsoft excel?
