I quit smoking day to day 10 years ago after 9 years smoking, did 4 years without a *** at all then, started having a few with a beer, and still do, not had a smoke since 19th of December but only been out drinking once since Christmas, don't really class myself as a smoker but I do now and again, love a good cigar once or twice a year too. Would never smoke sober though, don't like the smell when sober but love it when pissed

Congrats, Ponty72. I only ever smoked once a year (on No Smoking Day) but I've been close enough to people trying to quit to know it's a bitch.

(No, Mrs BR, I was saying it's a bitch, not that you were when you were quitting, I . . . Oh. Gotta go . . .)

Its been six years for me and I still have to fight cravings. I have to admit that just recently I've been on the cigars to try and fight the craving but if this doesnt work I am going to try another one of those e-cigs.

Still? I'd have thought you'd be past that and well into the "God, this is dull" phase by now.

Cheers peeps. First time I've ever had any success in giving up really, and feeling confident that I may have actually cracked it. Smoked since my mid teens and 42 now.

Been stopped 14 years yesterday after 20 years doing between 20 - 30 roll ups a day.

Turned into a fat b'stard within months and still struggling to try and lose the weight.

I started using an Ecig two years ago and it's helped me no ends, however I can't stop using it... Use it much more than I probably should.

Well done Ponty, but don't compensate by over eating, as others have said the pounds pile on especially if yer go long enough to get yer taste buds back.

I've also gone 22 days as well. Easier than last year as I've not really fancied a drink.

I have noticed an increase in appetite, feeling hungry pretty much constantly. Trying to just drink extra liquid (not beer) rather than eating, but I am back to having supper.

Re: gave up 22 years ago

Like Darfield Red I am on the e-cigs as well - stopped smoking real cigs on the evening of Danny's first game back just over a year ago (21 December), and have been on the e-cig since. First real attempt to stop smoking cigs since the late 80's.

Like Darfield Red though, I am using it a lot - too much probably. My family and friends reckon I must be on the equivalent of 100 a day now. I never put it down.

I still feel good about it though - if only for the money I save not smoking real ones.

I packed it in over 40 years ago. I can't work out I much money I have saved and healthwise the benefits are incalculable. Keep it going Ponty. You know it makes sense.
