<div class="ds-headline" id="ds-headline">Leon deal hit by late snag</div> <div class="ds-firstpara" id="ds-firstpara">BARNSLEY will hope the double deal involving Leon Constantine coming in and Marc Richards moving out is smoothed out today after it was deadlocked last night following hours of negotiations. </div> Constantine is lined up to join the Reds with Richards - and a cash sum - going the other way, but a hitch has developed which appears to be at the Vale end. Frustrated Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd commented: "I've said all along it's not straightforward; there are still hoops to go through." He added: "Port Vale will not just let Leon Constantine go, they want a player in too. I'd rather have paid the extra for Leon and bought him outright but Port Vale wanted a swap deal." The sticking point appeared to be the personal terms of Richards' move. It is understood that the agreement between the two clubs involved Barnsley paying a fee as well as releasing Richards. Shepherd said Constantine was happy to complete his transfer. The Reds are selling striker Tommy Wright to Rotherham United. Shepherd said the fee was undisclosed. There was also a bid from a League Two club for the former Blackpool centre-forward. On the playing front, Martin Devaney is poised to return for the Reds tonight along with youngsters Nathan Jarman, Michael Coulson, Robbie Williams plus Dale Tonge have been drafted into the squad for the FA Cup third round replay with Southend United at Oakwell. Devaney, who served a one-match ban on Saturday, returns to a midfield missing Kyel Reid, Dwayne Mattis and Grant McCann. On-loan winger Reid does not have permission from West Ham to play tonight while Mattis and McCann are cup tied having played in earlier rounds of the competition before moves to Oakwell. On-loan left-back Adam Eckersley is ruled out as well.
Does he know that the 'undisclosed sum' for Tommy Wright has 'ben disclosed' and its not enough. He's not going to Rovrum.
or that the quote is from yesterday and has only just been publish 24 hours later and the figure quoted for TW is a guess/estimate, yet i'm sure GS knows the amount so i would hardly say a piss take!
you just can't win! I posted it to show the doubters that it wasn't just a case of upping the bid-which is what some have said should happen-Vale wanted a striker-ruling out Wright-so Richards is the obvious one
That "undisclosed sum" was enough - in that we accepted what Rotherham offered....the sticking point was that the player couldn't agree terms with Rotherham...nowt to do with us
Why is it Hogwash? The statement clearly says the problem isn't out our end. It also said he was happy to pay more than offload Richards. The Rotherham deal may not at all be dead - it could be Rotherham using the press to negotiate the terms of Wright's contract. GS could inform you that he was coating Oakwell in gold, but you'd complain as you prefer silver.
errm its not JUST me saying so mate..listen to radio DeeDah look on here read the Chron..loads ARE SAYING SO
