Both these players attract a significant amount of comment if not complaint. But they do illustrate part to the problems that some players at Barnsley have. Leon we know can score wonder goals out of nothing. Whilst he is on the field you know he can pull a rabbit out of a hat and get us the goal we need. However, he has a large tendancy to dissapear. He is on the pitch but is so ineffectual that you wonder why he is there. Oddjob - well we all know he has extreme difficulty in scoring and that should be all you need to say about a striker. However, he certainly does not disapear. Despite the awful miss yesterday he did play well. You can see from the posts of others that there is a grudging acceptance of this fact. When he comes on the pitch, especially as a substitute, he really makes a difference. He creates havoc in the oppositions defence and that creates chances for others. It is so frustrating knowing that we have players that are good in some restpects and yet.............. This is the reason why they can be brilliant one week and the pits the next. Whilst I do not think Oddjob has ever been brilliant I think he certainly plays a roll. I suppose that this marks such players out to be squad players and not first choice ones. Must be frustrating for Davey who can see their potential but does not know how to get it out of them consistently.
RE: Strange comment 'Leon we know can score wonder goals out of nothing. Whilst he is on the field you know he can pull a rabbit out of a hat and get us the goal we need'. ???????? - He's only ever scored one goal for us. You sure your'e not mixing him up with Nardiello??
RE: Strange comment Maybe it is just my impression - but since you mention Nardiello - another good examply of the frustrating point I am getting at. Such a great tallent but............ Well we all know the problem with him sadly.
RE: Strange comment Perhaps I have too much in mind the display he gave at Preston - he was awsome on that day
RE: Strange comment Yeah, he looked the part at Preston but seemed to be given a free role which suited him better. I actually like the guy and whilst he will struggle to displace Anderson and Colace he is a useful option within the squad.
But Odjob also causes BFC havoc as well no one knows what he's going to do. He has a ten bob head, with no direction of headers and on a lot of occassions players are refusing to put him through because it means move will break down and we won't score. Thats miss was awful yesterday. He did everything wrong - almost as if the Cardiff miss played on his mind and he didnt want to wide of the keepper. The lad at half time stikes a ball better. He tried hard yesterday. Not once I have seen the pace up front that he used for that tackle in our own half.
maybe he just needs permission to enjoy himself on the pitch put himself about and get involved in the build up play as Macken does seems to me that when he plays, he is the target man for the long balls and if thats not working he looks one dimensional I hope that he does get a run in the first team in Hume's absence because he has more confidence than he did last year
Oddjob just isn't good enough, although he does try and his hearts in the right place. Leon is too lightweight!
I think they are both extremely consistent They're consistently very average. Both have had a couple of games where they've been very good, Chelsea and Watford away for Odejayi, Preston away and Watford away for Leon, but for the majority of the time they play at their usual level which is not up to scratch for a Championship team.
Oddy led the line well yesterday, held the ball up, won headers, brought others into play his tackle back after losing the ball summed up the fella in one, he ain't the finished article but as someone said earlier, he won't disappear, we really should rally behind players of this type that need that extra support. His miss wasn't a miss imho, Nic Anelka scored a similiar effort yesterday, he's a world class player bang in form,Oddy shouldn't be berated for having the balls to try and cheeky chip which may i say was a first class save by their keeper, he's not in form and lacks goals but had the bravery to try an effort that a striker on a goal run like Anelka does week in week out p.s My lord how good is Hugo Colace, when i heard we'd signed an Argie DMC i dreamt of performances like this, and guess what he's only been in England a few months, imagine what he'll be like next season, scary to think. You've only got to look at Souza, twice the player he was last season and near enough in contention for MOTM everyweek it would seem I'm loving reds at minute
