Criticising me for moving to Italy - 'incidentally nothing to do with taking advantage of free movement' many people move to non-EU countries

So as retirees moving legally to a country, we applied (and obtained) resident tax status, have proved before we could get said status that we had adequate resources to fund said residency, paying into the Health system, all local and govt taxes, restoring a property (providing employment to builders suppliers etc) buying goods and services as residents and comply with all the rules and laws.

Contrast that will mass uncontrolled and illegal migration (note illegal!) putting a huge strain on public finances and services. Thousands of dependents descending on a country (and the spread is not even) most of whom have limited skill sets, cannot speak Italian or English, have no documentation and no money, can, and does, lead to resentment, breakdown of society and ultimately leads to a rise in extreme right wing groups.

Surely anyone can see the difference!

I am not racist, xenophobic, little Englander and feel for the migrants - God knows how bad it must be for them to take the risks they did to come to Europe. Nevertheless, the hypocrisy of idealists on here accusing others of racism when most of them have done absolutey nothing concrete to assist these people other than point accusingly at anyone who is realistic is staggering. Only Governments can solve this problem. 'Tea and sympathy' don't cut it.

So you accuse me of hypocrisy, criticise me for moving abroad whilst (rightly) stating the rights of everyone to be able to seek a better life

Hypocrisy ? don't make me laugh!

I'm vehemently for 'leave', but I think most folk have made up their minds by now mate. Let's talk about getting ****ered on the Quayside in Newcastle next May to celebrate our promotion. In an independent UK....

Because migrants put in more to our economy than they take out, most in migration to Britain is people of working age contributing income tax, and illegal migrants have nothing to do with whether we are in or out of the EU.

I think the accusation that some have levelled is that you can come across as viewing yourself as a 'good' migrant and most other people as 'bad' migrants.

I think many of the Remainers are Little Europeans who can't think out of the box. Came out to France before the UK joined the EEC, there were no problems. You obtained a Residence Permit from the Mairie, in less time tan it took to wait to see a doctor in the UK. Employer obtained your Work Permit on your behalf, and at that time your UK bank decided when your account would become external, in order to avoid the exchange control act.

We will benefit by leaving, just as we benefitted from not joining the Euro. Those who wanted the Euro, had only one reason for joining. They would not have to change their cash when then travelled on holiday!

Open European borders have caused problems at Calais. Migrants without papers should not be allowed to move into the first EU country, let alone get to Calais. Refugees should have been thoroughly screened and all single men interned. The open border policy has caused a massive problem which will take years and possibly a war to sort out.

'Single men interned' - what do you mean by that?

It's a fact that those granted asylum seeker status cannot move freely between borders until they are accepted for an EU passport which takes up to ten years of residency. If they try to, they are illegal immigrants. That's a very different issue and is being confused massively.

I don't think it's perfect. I just don't think the leave campaign have any idea about the knock on impacts it may have so it's too big a risk to even contemplate right now when the economy has been on it's arse for so long.

That's an interesting perspective and one I totally agree with....yet Cameron Osborne and the Remain campaign generally have been telling us the economy is booming ...why risk leaving?
How many on here think the economy is booming?

    It isn't booming.

But there is a huge difference between that and the economy contracting.

You keep ignoring this so I'll try again. Why would leaving the EU stop illegal immigration?

Never said leaving the EU would. Its what comes after that determine it. Also whilst this is an immigration thread it is because of the original accisations aimed at me for migrating (retiring to Italy. Immigration is only a small part of my wishing for Brexit and when you think about it, if I was being selfish I would vote remain.

So its OK for Left wing remainers to post but me responding is being incessant. I admit I have initiated a lot of posts on the referendum many others are responses to OPs from others. Also a tip. You dont have to read or respond to them if you dont like them
