Living just down the road from there (it's our local town, kids go to school there etc) I often wonder what people see in it. But lots of people come here and tell you how much they enjoy it. Very geared up for tourists in the shops, eating/drinking places, etc and lots of old buildings and a river. Shakespeare connection everywhere of course. There are some other places nearby that might be worth a visit but depends what you're looking for. You won't see us - we'll be in Barnsley watching the Reds.
It's essential that you rip the piss out of the American tourists. In Shakespeare's house I pretended to be a tour guide and told them that a piece of apparatus was actually a child corrector which had been screwed down onto young Will's head causing its unusual shape. The resulting brain damage meant that Will couldn't string half a dozen words together and all the plays and sonnets attributed to him were actually written by his half-brother Tommy who unfortunately had to live in the attic because he'd been conceived on a package holiday to the Gambia. .
Dont eat in the theatre restaurant. Lousy grup way over priced. Do eat in the ancient old restaurant on the main street - somert Moons. The whitebait is to die for. Order theatre tickets in advance via the net - much cheaper. The garden at Ann whatnots house is bliss in late summer/autumn but cant imagine it being up to much this time of year. Go to Warwick Castle if its open but miss the rest of warwick
