When I came across a book called The Secret Footballer - The Hidden World of Professional Football. The writer is an anonymous Premier League player but has played for England and at lower levels.

It is very simply written and I read it in a day. I couldn't put it down.

This book tells it like it is and IMHO should be compulsory reading before anyone is allowed into a football match.

I think it would upset a lot of posters on here as it destroys 90% of the stuff you find posted on bulletin boards.

He tears apart all this passion, badge kissing, loyalty, etc which is spouted on here.

The average fan is really clueless as to what goes on in Clubs. Me included.

Its only common sense...........but you know what they say about common sense.........its not that common

Obviously as a player you will put yourself and family first before any football team
If the team that you support offers £1000 per week but another team offers £5000 per week then you move to the club that offers the most money
A footballers career isn't that long, probably just 15 years - in that time the footballer has to make as much money as possible because when they stop playing then what skills have most of them got to offer society?
None of the current England squad will be employable in 20 years time.
That's why most ex-footballers hang around clubs trying to gain coaching badges or TV studios trying to be football pundits - cos they dunt know owt else.

I had been racking my brains out trying to work it out. Not that it really matters.

It is so truthful. It's good on him who ever it is to pass on his experience as a pro in modern game.

I read the book and to be honest I think he makes himself look a bit of an arrogant pillock
Football isn't the nuclear physics he makes it out to be, you don't have to know how to kick a ball straight to understand a simple game.

It started out as a column in The Guardian. The author has since written two books.

I am the secret footballer http://www.amazon.co.uk/Am-Secret-F...1-2&keywords=tales+from+the+secret+footballer

Tales from the Secret Footballer http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tales-Secre...1-1&keywords=tales+from+the+secret+footballer

While many football fans think they have narrowed it down to Dave Kitson, there are plenty of people who don't believe it's written by a professional footballer at all and that it's a work of fiction.
