I've always wanted to build a kickass stadium but i've never really had the time/funds/space. I'd do the job lot too, get the floodlights to turn on. Everything. Anyone ever built one?
Yes, I used to love subbuteo as a kid. My ground was more of a Sunday league ground though as I only managed to build one stand - and that was second hand.
It was better than mine then. My was just a local rec - no stands, just a pitch. And a dodgy transformer.
I've got a grandstand, 4 single terraces and a corner price, never had enough room for a full stadium, plus I had maybe 70 fans or so
Same as me. In fact, the first Subbuteo teams I got were thin, two dimensional strips for the players. The plastic players came later. For example:- <img src ="http://www.pendlefalcon.com/uploads/3/2/5/3/3253217/814598_orig.jpg">
You wouldn't say that had you seen it. I think it cost me something like ten bob at a school jumble sale, the roof was missing and there were no fans in it. I had big ideas, I just didn't have the funds.
I had one stand, which was actually from pro action soccer. Used to love subbuteo, I had Barnsley, they made us when we were in the premier league, and you got 1 black player, so naturally, that was Clint Marcelle. You can imagine how horrified an 8 year old me was the day my mum walked through the living room and stood on Clint. Cried for days that Marcelle had to retire from injury
Never played Subbuteo, but did get the Barnsley FC Premier League team / set when they came out. Still all boxed up in the loft. Probably only worth about £10 if that. (63338 - Barnsley "ORA" sponsor - Premier League Edition.)
Not opened the box for years but I have some of those original ones as well as the later versions. My first ones were in red and white, obviously, and the other team was blue and white so basically it was Barnsley V Chesterfield every match (you can guess the time period we are talking about here!) For me the game was always played on the floor. Only when I joined a local league did some of the "home grounds" have a table to play on and that upset my usual style altogether Was a great game though, and I will probably get them all out again one day. Maybe I will put them all on the pitch and take a couple of photos to post on here
So were mine, I had Barnsley vs Chesterfield, Everton, Birmingham City, Rangers, Ipswich & a number of others. It always had to Barnsley in the red, though. Absolutely loved the game.
I hated Subbuteo never got the idea of the ball being bigger than the players, plus it was a pain to play, more players got injured by being kneeled on and the pitch creased up...no I prefered Striker where you pushed down the heads to kick the ball, only 5 aside but brill....just an opinion.
I much preferred that too. I didn't have it, but my friend did. His version was called Super Striker, but I don't think the 'Super' made any difference, just a marketing gimmick. The two teams were Man Utd and Newcastle. He was always Man Utd and he always beat me. If we were playing first to 5 but I got there first, we'd have to make it first to 10, or first to whatever number we were at when he took the lead. To be fair, he was better at it than me, but he had to win every time. Sometimes it was better to lose on purpose so we could do summat else. He also had Test Match, the cricket game. That was brilliant too. And Rebound. He had all the best games. Neither of us had crossfire though. I would have sold me Nan for crossfire.
Striker had goalies that threw the ball out, super Striker had diving goalies...I had rebound and crossfire, also Casdon Soccer and Arnlod Palmer Golf with the little golfer on the end of a stick, you pulled a lever and the golfer swung the club...oh happy days....
My subbuteo wasn't even local rec standard. more like rolls of turf ready to lay. Think it came out the box once. Much preferred this
