who should it be? I have this horriblefear that Muller gets injured early on Tuesday-I don't like not having a proper goalie on the bench
It bothers me a lot At some point Muller will either get injured or sent off Sent off is always a risk these days if a keeper mistimes a challenge or misjudges the edge of the box The idea of playing with 10 men and an outfield player in goal doesnt appeal
It's an interesting way of playing the bench though Anyone know what percentage of games feature an injury to or sending off of the goalie? Sure it would probably mean losing that particular match but then there's the benefits of the larger selection of outfield players for every other match. So it's all about playing the percentages. An advantage in twenty matches (for example) offset against a banana skin in the other match. Maybe Davey secretly knows that one of the outfield players happens to be fairly decent in the nets anyway. Campbell-Ryce? Maybe not.
RE: It's an interesting way of playing the bench though That's the way I look at it. The worst that can happen is to not get any points for that particular game. Cup games are slightly different obviously. We could well have an outfield player on the bench who plays a bit in goal. Jagielka proved to be a decent keeper on a couple of occasions. Warnock thought he was quite reliable as the reserve keeper.
RE: It's an interesting way of playing the bench though Think it happened twice last season - Mannone for Colgan at Preston, and didn't Letheran come on for Colgan at home after an injury?
So about what you suggested - 1 change in 23 games.

I knew somebody would come up with the stats I reckon it's an astute move by Davey then. Do other teams adopt this approach?
Just been thinking... didn't we lose both those games anyway?
So if we'd gone the whole season without a second keeper, it wouldn't have made a scrap of difference.

apparently its because paul reid is......... by far the best at punting long balls into the oppositions half

but if I was the opposition manager.............. I'd certainly be telling my forwards to go down at any 50-50 challenge by the goalie
