Today, I was prevented from taking 48 aspirin/paracetemol mix tablets from a supermarket because I may use them to commit suicide.

2 hours earlier, I purchased CDs by Leonard Cohen, Killing Joke, Joy Division and Nick Cave without any comment.

Of the two purchases, I know which one I would suspect of being a suicide indicator!!!

No matter how bad Leonard Cohen et al make you feel - the cds could only effect a very messy death. If you'd purchased Lou Reed's Berlin I'd be really worried.

    Re: Suicide

It just felt very strange that buying 48 ordinary painkillers is flagged as a potential suicide when buying what many people label "depressing" music is unregulated. What makes it even more stupid is that I was able to put the additional box of painkillers through the same checkout 15 seconds after I had completed the first transaction!

I have no intention of committing suicide... If I had, petty regulations such as those I encountered today would be no deterrent! It has been a waste of time producing them.

BTW, I find Leonard Cohen very uplifting at the right moment. He can also be useful in moments when I need to let my sorrow come to the fore....

That reminds me of once trying to buy paint stripper(to strip paint off a door) when I was 16 and being refused the sale. Whereas, I was more than welcome to buy a hammer or a knife!

I got asked to prove my age before I was allowed to buy damp seal. I find it hard to believe that specialist paints are anyone's recreational drug of choice.

As for Leonard Cohen, I can't imagine how anyone can find it depressing. Entertaining accompaniment to a bad mood, yes. Amusingly OTT miserabilia, yes. But depressing? No way. For that you might want to try some Smog.

Same thing happened to me an ah lass.
They wouldn't let us pay for them in one transaction.
We had to go through the pay station twice.

I get paracetemol on a scrip as I take 8 a day. The the local chemist doles out 8 weeks supply. Obviously the doctor assesses whether you are a suicide case or not!
