    Below is an abridged summary of the meeting with Simon Davey.

    Both Simon Davey (Barnsley FC Manager) and Ryan Kidd (Assistant Manager, Barnsley FC) were the invited guests for the January meeting of the Supporters Trust Football Forum. At the start of the meeting, both Simon and Ryan gave a little background on their careers to date. Both retired early from being players due to injury; they trained to be coaches and met when they had a spell with David Moyes at Preston NE. Simon was offered the academy job at Oakwell which he was pleased and honored to accept. When he became caretaker manager at Barnsley he approached Ryan to be his no.2. Both men had traveled widely looking at different academy and football club set-ups, evaluating the pro’s and cons of various systems in the UK, Europe and in the United States. Following this a question and answer session was conducted. This session consisted of a variety of questions. One question was asked about Robbie Williams playing as central midfield against Sheffield Wednesday. SD replied that both he and RK considered that Robbie might be a better midfield player than a defender. They also pointed out that the defeat was not down to just one player and that several others did not perform on the day.

    Asked if they felt that the criticism over their appointment had affected the players or themselves, both replied that they thought it had not, and that they would do their best to help Barnsley retain there championship status. A lot of questions were asked regarding the team, and potential players. SD felt that the squad was very big, but a lot of the players were fringe players. When they took on the caretaker role, the four loan players had already been appointed on the recommendation of the chief scout. Any further players that will be signed would be the choice of the management team (SD and RK). They have already identified many players who they feel would improve the team at Oakwell, and they have took these names to the Board at Oakwell. The Board at Oakwell has been very supportive and at no time have they refused any of SD’s requests. SD stressed that the players must improve the team, give the team we have competition for places and must be at the right price (and that does not mean cheap) and be able to help the club progress.

    The biggest problem with the transfer window is that it is an auction and that agents are forcing prices higher. There are still several players that the club is interested in. SD is also trying to loan out some of the fringe players so they can gain experience. He realizes that all positions need strengthening and that this is especially true of central defence and center forward. He had hoped to land Gregan from Leeds, and had made a good competitive contract, but Oldham at the last minute offered a 2.5 year contract, which SD felt was too long for a player of 33 years. He has no interest in Horsfield, the club wants to keep its best players and contract talks have started with them.

    SD believes in club discipline, one of the first tasks was to make the players turn up in suits to create a more professional approach. Players will be fined for a lack of discipline and for gaining yellow cards for dissent. Other areas discussed included the unfortunate incident involving Ronnie Wallwork and that they are in regular contact with WBA over his recovery. Ronnie may return to training at WBA at the end of February. The youngsters at Oakwell were discussed and he felt that Coulson and Atkinson had good futures ahead of them. There were many other subjects covered, a more detailed summary is available in the members area of the Trust website.

    You had the opportunity to turn up and ask your questions. To my knowledge you did not turn up or ask the questions when the opportunity was there

    RE: A Suggestion Owen

    Well said Owen
    they hide behind an imaginary name and slag the club manager everything off, yet when they get an option to voice there opinion they're not there just like they weren't at Southend, but guess what if we beat Southend in the replay and tottenham win at Cardiff they'll be the firt in the que for Tickets.
    Its been a bad day against probably one of the best teams in the league. Next saturday is a big one for me, them are the games to win. Lets see how many thousand we take to Luton to back the lads.
    I'll sign this one following my initial sentance

    I went to the meeting of my own free will

    I am not a 'sheep'</p>

    I have my own free will and as a member of the ST I went along to hear the views of Simon Davey and Ryan Kidd.</p>

    They received a unanimous vote of support from the Trust and the members at the meeting.
    </p>

    </p>

    Who else do we turn to?</p>

    We are a small club surviving on limited finances, with an 8.000 core support. </p>

    We are not a big club and we have people working behind the scenes to make us self sufficient and to balance the books.</p>

    The 'Sheep 'went to the meeting because we care about anything concerning BFC
    </p>

    You did not go, so please do not verbally attack and verbally patronise those who did. </p>
