Can only offer him a grand a week more , from 4 to 5. they wanted to offer 10 but its writ down somewhere they can't
Says they can't afford his 8k a week demands in our paper. Then again Nardiello was off to Portsmouth, Man City, etc and look what happened there!
RE: Says they can't afford his 8k a week demands in our paper. Agent: Hi is that the Sun Sun: Yes it is Agent: I have an exclusive on Brian Howard the Barnsley captain Sun: Go on Agent: He really wants to stay at Barnsley but they only offered a measly £5K a week, he would love to play in the Premiership Sun: Cheers it will be in tommorrows paper
I Was Going To Say....... well done to the club for not giving in to wage demands. However it would seem The Sun know best and that Howie can't be offered what he wants.
Daily Star Says.......... Howie is on 4k and we want him to sign a new contract for 5k. But Howie won't accept less than 8k, but due to financial restrictions placed on us when we went into administration in 2002 we can't offer more than 5k (so says Gordon Shepherd). Therefore Shepherd is going to urge the board to cash in with Everton, Blackburn and Portsmouth interested (West Ham were mentioned yesterday).
Its going to be one of them soon Actually all this is a bit strange - surely we need a new chairman before we can really consider changing our wage structure.
RE: Its going to be one of them soon Changing our wage structure would be disastrous. £5K a week or cash in on him.
Woud love Howard to stay but... I thnk its important we don't break our wage structure. As a club we need to ensure we are financially viable. Yes that may mean we lose players to bigger clubs but we don't have the income (ie attendances) to support anything different. It was overspending that sent us in to administration last time
Well Said Nobody can argue that he should be offered 8-10k a week, when you look at the crowds we pull in. But no doubt if he goes due to not being offered that fans will see it as a lack of ambition by the board. I would see it as sensible business for not being held to ransom.
RE: brian howard for sale his agent must have been busy, daily mail "Barnsley must cash in on Brian Howard because they cannot meet his wage demands. Chairman Gordon Shepherd is not willing to match the £8000 a week deal Howard wants" All Gordons fault then??
agents - cnuts the lot of 'em. Apart from..... ....that African chancer who was peddling players though that Russian team's BBS site!
Isn't there a football league rulling on %age of turnover spent on wages Or does that only apply to lower leagues. If there is in this league, the won't has an element of can't. Howard can't play on his own.
now we are out of admin I can't see that being the reason............. but it makes us look like the good guys! we'd really like to give you £8k but we just can't
Its a tough one though isn't it
If we lose players because of money its perceived aslack of ambition and folk will moan if results don't pick up next season.
If we pay it its a risk and we could be exposed financially. I suppose it all boils down to what SM says about the crowds- due to our low income we have to hope we can find players within our structure and then hope Davey can manage them well, and not fooking get the monk on with half the squad after 10 games.

what about long term view? cash in get about 1.5 million and buy in a load of unproven players (havent we been here before) or pay him a bit more and build up a decent team round him? how many players have we currently got not even making subs bench and how much do their wages add up to?
In fairness to Bri as well I wouldn't blame him either if he does go. He's done a great job for us and if a Premier League team come in then its a great opportunity for the lad and a big pay rise
