They have previously been given benefits and pay at the pontefract depot that other superdrug workers at the other depots haven't had and the plan is to scrap these benefits so everyone gets the same.

A few of the changes are wanting to do away with a £2 an hour 'unsociable hours' bonus for anyone working 6pm to 10pm, changes in holiday pay and sick pay (so that both don't get paid any unsciable hours/sunday premiums when they don't actually work I think) and asking employees to opt out of the maximum 48 hour working week which is a european law designed to stop companies forcing staff to work too many hours.

Depends on what financial state the company is in

Bear in mind a large proportion of Retail groups are on the borderline. I have no evidence this group have
but surely it would be better to keep jobs by slight savings than throw them on the dole.

Depends if my job was under threat in which case i'd be glad to pick up the rest of the wage rather than being on the dole. To be honest getting a shift premium for working at half 6 on a wednesday evening is something that you were very lucky to ever get in the first place especially at £2 an hour extra.

On the other points have superdrug told you all that you must opt out of the working time directive in order to keep your jobs? Or have they merely asked if you could? (ie optional)

A lot of places only get unsociable hours if they work 10am -6am. Where i work we dont get paid extra for working Sundays, bank holidays, or special rates for over-time. Any one who works bank holidays gets standard pay but can take an extra holiday day during the year. Seems your company is just falling into line with everyone else. It's not good for you lot though, but i wont boycott superdrug. Don't know much about politics but could this be something to do with Brussels?

    That sounds fair enough
