Despite what people say, this generation doesn't give up when the tough gets tough. Root's battled through, got a lot right and not gone missing and ran away from the battle.
Don't worry, I'm sure Scotland will be soon up to get a good licking. Well it's normally an early May game. With Ireland becoming a Test member it should give us more oppotunity to put Scotland back in the box.
No, That was a bit harsh above. England players have mentioned they get a bit of abuse up in Scotland.
Do they? You must enlighten me as I have honestly never heard of any abuse like you say. Of course as I don't like cricket it may have passed me by but I'd be very interested in you supplying me with evidence of your claim.
No. But he's the captain and the captains are normally the ones that do the runner against SA. Strauss Vaughan hussain........
Hemmsy I noticed you answered Mario's question but you have yet to answer mine. Maybe your comment was not entirely true.
Funnily enough I had a feeling this was a thinly veiled dig at Vaughan or another player from a demographic that you don't like.
Actually the Scotch are a very versatile sporting nation Ian. They might be total garbage, but at least they are total garbage at absolutely everything.
The team South Africa had when Atherton was around would have beaten this England team. Probably to nil.
I think it's great that England look like they'll complete a series win (albeit Amla and Du Plessis have dug in a bit now and there's rain due tomorrow so it may be 2-1 rather than 3-1) and am in total admiration of Joe Root who is a fantastic and consistent all-round batsman. We probably should be looking to win all home series, especially as South Africa are weakened by the loss of some key players and in a bit of transition, but take nothing away as you can only play what's in front of you. Why the OP can't just leave it at that is beyond me but for some reason we have to have an inter-generation and anti-Vaughan (England's winning-most captain) undertone. By the way, Vaughan resigned after the series was already lost and Hussain resigned as captain after the first test but played the next three as a batsman, scoring 260+ runs at around 50 before breaking his foot, despite which he offered to take injections to play in the last test. So not really 'running away when it got tough' in either case, just you manipulating the facts to fit your agenda-driven argument again.
Strange post, seeing as this team has had more batting collapses under Bayliss than most teams I can recall. 2nd test was a prime example. I'd class this series as one of two decent bowling units performing fairly well on helpful pitches and the batsmen generally not being able to cope and showing terrible technique. Very few hundreds so far. I can't see where we can build partnerships and we seem unable to often be more than 150-4. A whitewash down under awaits unless we can find some solid batsmen I'm afraid.
This teams number two in the world. Beat Australia in Australia. They are a mighty fine team. Woakes comes back. Hales in for someone in any position. 2,3 or 5. and it's looking nice.
