From Yorkshire Post: 'Commenting on the reaction of the club's supporters at the weekend, Davey said: "We were always going to get flak. Supporters want to be top of the league, so do managers and players, but we are not. I understand that we get frustrated. "Driving into the work today, the amount of supporters slating (Aston Villa's) Martin O'Neill on the radio was horrific. They were calling him 'tactically naive' but this is a fella who works in a factory saying it! "I sometimes wonder why the presenter doesn't say 'how are you qualified to say that Martin O'Neiil is tactically naive?'" he added. "Two weeks ago, he was going to be the England manager after Capello. That's how fickle supporters are. From now until the end of the season, we have to unite and stick together."</p> A thinly veiled attack on those who have been having a go at him tactically methinks and another 'people not in the game, don't know the game' jibe.</p> </p>
the problem is davey needs to appreciate we pay his wages. We are the people that gave him his contract and unfortunatley he is never gunna be totally accepted by the faithful. i can see what he is saying but we unlike villa have a valid case to get on his back if he aint learning by his mistakes. I dont want him sacked unless we find a better replacement (joe royle would have done a job) but when the seasons over even 4th bottom is not taking the club forward based on the backing hes had.
RE: 'people not in the game, don't know the game' ..............and thats very true !!! That's a shitty argument. Ever seen a bad film??? Yes? Well you can't comment on it, because you've never been in one.
RE: 'people not in the game, don't know the game' ..............and thats very true !!! spot on.....plus we have a better view than him
Not really To claim that because a man works in a factory he is not qualified to comment on football matters is arrogance in the extreme. I've never been a football manager but I couldn't do a much worse job than simon davey has recently.
I bet you could You have no idea how difficult it is to be a manager or even an assistant for that matter and to think otherwise is just as arrogant.
he's on about Martin O'Neil - and the 2 extremes with regard to criticism of him. We've all a right to express our opinions - but it would do some well to accept that they are just that - opinions. Davey, O'Neil and the rest are the ones pitch side trying to put their ideas etc into action. They're the ones that stand or fall by them.
What Barnsley fans know or do not know about the game is irrelevant - Davey's performance is measured against the other 23 managers in the division 21 of 'em are doing better than him and we are going nowhere with him in charge That's all we need to know
It's becoming a witch hunt i think. People just waiting to have a dig at him for the sake of it. He's under enough pressure as it is, get behind em and hopefully we will get out of this mess. Replace him at the end of the season after we are assured of safety.
"Supporters want to be top of the league, so do managers and players, but we are not." - It's not that we aren't top of the league that I'm frustrated, there are another 20 places in the league that would do!
RE: Not really I would like to think that:</p><ul>[*]I know a good (and a bad) player when I see one;[*]I know when the team has played well and whether they should have won the game;[*]I know when a tactic is working and when it's not working[/list] I feel that my intelligence has been insulted often by various managers around these points.</p>
RE: 'people not in the game, don't know the game' ..............and thats very true !!! I wonder if he ever goes to a restaurant for a meal, I hope if it's not cooked well that he just remains quiet and doesn't complain, after all he's never worked in a restaurant so how would he know?
He stated he could do a better job Thats completely different to criticising I'm afraid.</p> I'm not a Davey fan at all but ffs give him a break. This over exaggeration of everything he says is not only silly and childish but is counter productive.</p> </p>
