You could say

The Stand is Survivors redone. Survivors was originally on the telly in the 70's & based on a book which I suspect was written before The Stand. Agree about the offerings on the other side though.

To make sure I wasn't feeding you duff information. The original series first aired in 1975 & Terry Nation wrote a couple of books based on the first series. The Stand was published in 1978.

the stand was an extension of a short story called captain trips that he wrote way before then and was published in
one of them short story books he done.i'd look it up for dates but i've had several n can't be arsed.

According to Wikipedia

Which I know is no guarantee of accuracy, the short story was part of a compilation that was also published in 1978.

It's entirely possible that the short story was published in a magazine that someone involved with the production of Survivors read, but no idea how we'd find that out, one way or the other.
