That could/may be seen as tapping up if Barnsley haven't given permission to speak to him (contract runs to summer 2026) and the only way they will get that is if they match Barnsleys valuation. No bids have been recieved according to Clarke.
He surely has to be worth at least £3m (likely more) with two and a half years left on his contract. Doubt Swansea can afford that.
If the right bid comes in, the Club are gonna accept it. I know that won't go down well with some fans, but it's reality. We're a 3rd Division Club. It's not losing players that's so much the issue for me, it's who we replace them with.
By today's ridiculous over inflated transfer values, I'd ask nearer to £5 mill. But its also down to what other clubs are willing to offer, and negotiate isn't it. Also, if there's any truth in this, do Swanny have anybody decent who could be part of the deal. An out and out striker maybe!.
We have got better at getting value for money on outgoings. You’d imagine it would have to be 5 million including add ons given his goals and assists record.
Two and a half years left on his contract. His goals record. His assists record. We wouldn't come close to replacing him adequately during the season. We are aiming for promotion. His value wouldn't be any less in the summer, when we would know what league we are in.
Madness to be talking about selling him - the Swansea guy is showing no class & needs to be told Off you pop!
As much as I hate people saying that we're a selling club, and that we always have been etc!. And its also in the middle of a Play off hopeful season. But I don't think we can afford to turn down the offers that we just might get, for Phillips.
Correct. Apologies, I missed the yrs option in our favour. So more weight on our side. Tapping up though, which im sure goes on via agents, would have an adverse effect on a players mental state if more money is offered in wages. Which is more than likely above double what he's on now.
This lot have turned down more offers and took the risk more than previous owners. I believe eg. Kane Cole Styles Admittedly some of those probably would have seen their contract out and risked going to the highest bidder.
He's a weird one Phillips. Good goalscorer, creative, but doesn't seem to offer much more. Needs a system around him that'll let him do just that which we seem to have at the minute. Would he do the same in the Championship? Dunno. Rather found out with us though.
Good player, however there's no chance we'd get anything like £3-5m for him in my opinion. I'm not sure he's good enough for top end Champ and I don't think many of the mid to lower sides have got millions to spend. I'd be very surprised if we got more than £2m for him in total - even with add ons etc. The fact he's still here probably tells you that higher clubs haven't been convinced enough to go for him. He has very good technique with his shooting, finishing, passing and is great for us. But he can be completely anonymous and personally I think he suits a team high up in a league where they have more of the ball and are dominant. Not sure he'd be much good for a side fighting relegation where they need everyone working for the team. Just my view.
