Duff was the problem because Swansea just didn't suit his style at all, and fans didn't warm to him due to dour football at the beginning and then his comments regarding Cardiff. Williams, I'm just not sure he's good enough/experienced enough, although I think he needs time. Only played 4 league games, 2 of which were against Southampton and away at Leicester. They beat Morecambe but got battered by Bournemouth in the cup. Maybe they got him in for next season instead of trying anything this season
Swansea was the problem as they weren’t willing to accept that a more pragmatic approach was required with the players they had.
Bit of both for me. Wrong manager at the wrong time. Squad needs a massive overhaul, but too many on long contracts and decent money.
I'm not sure they do, they have a relatively young squad, especially in defence. I think they just need a creative attacking player, and maybe a right back. Get rid of the oldies like Allen & Naughton and spend that better on a couple of players and I think they'll be fine. Surprised they're struggling as much as they are bud.
While I don't particularly "care" as such, Duff's sacking after only a few weeks in the job is interesting snapshot of modern football and worth further discussion, in my very humble opinion of course.
In fairness to Duff he was employed exactly because the owners wanted to change the style of football but the fans didn’t so he was up against it before he started. Results, his personality and comments just helped cement the issues. The board really should have stuck with him
I wassurprised that he was naive enough to say the result of the derby wasn't important. He'd had 2 managerial jobs and grown up with and played professional football!
It feels like they can’t let go of the Martinez era & every manager is expected to replicate that. It was mental spending money on recruiting Duff to get rid of him so soon.
It was a poison chalice anyone could see that. Delusional fans “play the Swansea way” bllks. An owner they hate because the golden teet has run dry and they’re now forced to cut their cloth accordingly. But long haul got his payoff so kerrrching!
The man had the best defence in the league, worth 10 million, 2 of the best keepers in the league, and the best midfielder in the league, probably overall the best midfield... He failed miserably
It's not hard on MLH. He got sacked for being useless and now the new man needs time to turn things around, implement his own ideas and tinker with the squad.
So they need to give the new man time to get things right, but they were right not to give Duff time?
True, but with the club in transition, no way was he given anything like a fair crack in my opinion. It's just symptomatic of modern football.
Remember, if someone does well for us then leaves, then we've got to be bitter towards him for the rest of his life. It's the BBS way.
He made what he inherited better. He made the club better. He managed the situation as well as anyone I could imagine & left us in a much, much better position than he found it.
