...in to Oakwell tomorrow. They claim the Police told them it's the Club's decision and they don't want it on their property.

    Weird that, innit?

They'll be joining a 'solidarity' march in Town Centre from 1pm organised by the Barnsley Green Party instead.

Due to the message on it or the size of the flag or some other reason? Often these things get misreported. The 'what' tends to be correct but the 'why' gets befuddled.

Do fans inform opposition clubs and the police what flags they're bringing? If not, how does anyone know about this?

If Swindon are bringing this flag, if they did inform people that they're doing so and if the club have banned it for the message then yes, it's weird. On two counts. Firstly, why Swindon fans would want to bring it to a football match and secondly why anyone at Oakwell would want to ban it. But, at the moment, I'm not buying the story.

The club probably have a rule over not allowing political statements, and this could be construed as such. So I’d agree with the club.

I don’t oppose the message, but the club have to be even in their approach.

What a crock of shlte all religion is....just for people who cannot think for themselves and want to follow someone else...no matter how daft it all is(just like happy clappers!). Religion is the cause of all the trouble (current and past) in the middle east as well.

Aye - both of 'em. But not for the political message, was felt it may cause disruption because we were laiking Forest.

Re: Swindon fans apparently been refused permission to bring a 'Refugees Welcome' fla

The message I've had is that the Swindon supporters have been raising cash to pay for the flag and had over £200 donated. Apparently, the Police at Swindon have got wind of it, notified BFC who have said that they don't want it on their property.

Now, whether that's the Safety Officer or the Club itself I've no idea, but that's what I've been told. They've done the flag anyway and will walk it through Town with some Barnsley groups instead.

    How is it weird?

If your mate from south yorkshire casuals turned up with a flag stating opposite then youd be outraged at it was even suggested. And demanding xyz from theclub police etc.

Its a football stadium. Not a debating group for faux political activists regardless of their persuasion.

Re: Swindon fans apparently been refused permission to bring a 'Refugees Welcome' fla

At a guess I'd say there'll probably as many int 'Well on Saturday who wouldn't welcome refugees as those who want to promote it?!?

The club set a precedent when the 'people united will never be defeated' flag was removed v Forest although it's well documented that wasn't for 'political' reasons. I'm on the fence a bit with this one. But where would the line be drawn? I reckon it's got to be a black and white issue with no grey areas. Like I said the clubs already made a decision, rightly or wrongly so?!? If you straw polled this board id expect quite an even split on agreeance with their decision.
