if the money could be found wouldn't it be better to stay over somewhere on the way back and go to Coventry direct rather than traipse all the way back here and then back down again?

    Wednesday March 14, 2007, KO 7.45pm.

Barnsley FC General Manager Don Rowing entered into discussions with the Football League this week in protest at the planned fixture change citing the disruption such a late switch will cause to both supporters travelling to the game by air and rail as well as to the Club's training and travel arrangements as the team would be forced to travel back to South Yorkshire in the early hours of Thursday morning. This will greatly disrupt preparations for the trip to Coventry City on Saturday March 17, 2007.

Unfortunately, the Football League have been unsympathetic to Barnsley Football Club's protestations and insisted the fixture at Home Park be played on Wednesday March 14, 2007.

David Cookson's reply from the Football League is published below:

Further to our recent telephone conversation, I write to acknowledge your representations on behalf of both the Management and supporters of Barnsley FC in respect of Plymouth Argyle's request to move the above match to Wednesday 14th March due to an FA Cup 6th round tie on Sunday 11th March - kick-off 6.00 pm.

Whilst I fully appreciate the reason for those objections, you may recall that the Football League introduced a policy at the time of the ITV digital deal which stated that that the Football League would not force any club to play within 48hrs of the conclusion of one match and the start of another. As this policy is still used today and that this match falls into this category, I regret that on this occasion The Football League must support the request of the home club to switch the match to Wednesday 14th March 2007, kick-off 7.45pm.

I hope that your Management and Supporters understand the reasons behind us reaching this decision.

Barnsley FC would like to apologise to supporters for any inconvenience this fixture switch will cause but unfortunately the decision was taken out of our hands.

    Once again...

... the Reds get screwed by ITV Digital !

I'm surprised they've got the gall to even mention the name, let alone use it as an excuse to justify their decisions !

    Sorry......

but i don't blame ITV Digital. Yes we was expecting the money and should have got it. But we shouldn't have already bugdeted for the money and assumed nothing would go wrong with a new business venture. We hadn't up to that point got the money (only assumed we would get it). So why did we spend what we didn't have ? People make us totally blameless and fault ITV completely for going into administration. I would say the blame is 75/25 in our favour.

    RE: Sorry......

I hear what you're saying and agree to some extent, but I would say the blame was 75/25 towards the FL management !
The members of the FL put their trust in the management team to agree a TV deal, yes, they had £ siggns in their eyes - who wouldn't, but at the end of the day the FL management should have checked what they were getting into !
