A manager can get his tactics spot on but if on the day the opposition get there tactics right also and are the better team they will win. There seems to be too much emphasis on Lee Johnson after yesterday .At the end of the day the best team won.
the voice of reason at last totally agree fella... its one ruddy game... we were the poorer side and lost... We still have it very much in our hands to make the play-offs... I also reckon that had our unbeaten come to an end at say.. Bristol, then hardly owt woulda been said. BUT because it was the Blunts all hell lets loose...pathetic innit. At the end of the day we beat them at their place and they did us at ours...3 points apiece...honours even.
The planets aligned yesterday and I was as to get to Oakwell for the first time in ages. The Miners opened its doors in good time for a quick 3 pints and it was off to see what all the fuss has been about. Keen anticipation soon gave way to the grim resignation that it was going to be one of those days. Never got going, struggled to control the ball, created nothing and looked second to it for much of the game. Crushing disappointment, bemusement at formation and personnel/ positions but all tempered by the fact that I was back in a place I love, albeit on this occasion suffering the torment that makes the success all the sweeter when it comes around. So slings and arrows and all that, our day will come again and I just hope I'm there to enjoy it.
.............you say.........'at the end of the day the best team won'...................but did they ??? I wouldn't swap any of their players for any of ours.................so how come they won ??? ..........the reason.........TACTICS A good manager has plan B, C, D and even F ready and waiting for when things are not working out. Against the Blunts - we played for the full match doing the same thing - Plan A Plan A didn't work, and everybody in the ground could see it wasn't working, after only 5 minutes into this game
You wouldn't swap any of their players for ours? Come on Nudge. They've a far stronger squad than we have. I could name at least six players who would walk straight into our team, probably more. They're better than us and have been for most of the season. I'm happy to admit that.
In still traumatised didn't expect it, thought this was our moment to confirm we were going to make the play offs, the other results went for us. P%ssing hell still gutted
I'd take 6/7 of uniteds players in an instant they should be competing for top 2 given the strength of their squad.
Maybe over the season, their league position and points tally vs us demonstrates who is the better team so far this season. Its usually a good guide.
............firstly, name the first team players you would do a straight swap with ours? Their best player is a full back / centre back they got from Cardiff - would you swap him for Crainie? Their second best player is a midfielder called summert like Scougal - would you swap him for Hourihane? Their leading scorer is Done - would you swap him for Winnall? ........on the evidence I've seen on the Television and from the game at their place and now on Satdi - the answer would be NO !!! Secondly, and importantly........they have been in the 1st division for some years now. Barnsley have built a team from scratch this season, hence there has been a lot of changes over the season - which is shown in the league positions. But that is not a reflection of the fact that Barnsley have not got the better players Thirdly...........have people already forgotten that we beat them at their place
What game did you watch seriously? We changed our plan 3 times in the same game. The last thing you can accuse the manager of is being inflexible. The other day vs Orient he changed formation about 20 minutes in and that almost certainly got us a point we wouldn't have otherwise done. And we were in the game for at least the first 20-30 minutes- so your 'obvious after 5 minutes' argument is not correct either.
Obviously watching a different game to you. In my opinion we had lost the game territorially from the beginning of the match - we were penned back in our own half - we relied on the big hoof ball up the middle to the centre forward that didn't have another Barnsley player near him. If you think this is wrong could I just point out one fact.........we didn't have a single shot on target from the start of the match to the finish. Winnall was out wide on the wing and there wasn't a single player breaking from midfield............result of TACTICS That is to say - defensive TACTICS And these are tactics from a team that is full of confidence having not lost for weeks and just been to the league leaders and got a draw.............playing a team that had just lost at home to Crewe and were struggling to get their campaign back on track
