http://www.crawleytownfc.com/club/history/ They've been around for a long time but most of that history is Southern League with some recent success in the Conference. They achieved Football League Status in 2011. That's THREE years ago. The team we are playing have only been in the League for three years. They've had two brushes with Administration in recent times and only really got rolling when they appointed the now Rotherham manager, Steve Evans. He will probably claim all the credit for their elevation to the big league. So, very well done Crawley. They've done well to get where they are and are probably looking forward to local derbies with Brighton one day. Reminds me a bit of when we were last at this level and played Cheltenham Town at the start of the season. I travelled up on one of their supporters' buses because I was in Gloucester at that time. It was a fairly quiet journey, none of them expecting anything from such a "big club" as Barnsley. They pinched a 1-1 draw and they celebrated all the way back down the M5. Crawley fans had better not be going home Saturday night with the same result, or better!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they have a massive cash injection to help boost them to the level they are now at? Hardly inspirational stuff.
What's size matter? Thought I'd stumbled on the Wednesday message board here - as spartacus said kick off 3 pm on Saturday playing each other in league 1 - great leveller football
He told the Dale fans at a forum last night that League One is a second Championship and with the lowest budget in the division it would be a dream to even think of promotion. Good old Keith.
Exactly. They'll come here with the same attitude that we had going to Highbury, Old Trafford and Anfield - it's a game of football; eleven v eleven; winner is the team that scores the most, not who has the most trophies/fans/season tickets. Both clubs are where they are on merit, everything else is bluster.
Ok thanks. It just looked as though it was. A few others might have got the impression I was talking like a "massive" fan, but I wasn't. I have loads of respect for little clubs having supported several over the years in addition to Barnsley. Trouble is there are plenty on here who don't read posts properly and just jump in, feet first
