I just wanted to update everyone as we approach Christmas – it’s a sort of ‘state of the union’ as you might say !
    I spoke to JR to get his views and he would like to highlight the following key issues;
1 The directors have today paid another £1 million into the club to ensure we are financially stable. Increased costs such as players’ wages, new contracts, etc have meant that the directors have had to help with the finances, and it’s a sign of their commitment to make sure DRFC are healthy and well organised. I’m sure you are aware that our current attendances do not cover all our costs, hence the action taken today. These actions may well prove very timely come the end of the season when other clubs are called to account...lets see !
2 JR would like you to know that we are still busy searching for player talent, and wants to reassure folk that just because you don’t see / hear anything from the Rovers –this does not mean that the management team are doing nothing. Have faith ! Unfortunately we don’t have the budgets of the big clubs – or huge parachute payments – like the £10 million that Derby received for instance – so we have to punch above our weight – and he hopes we appreciate the efforts that they put in to achieve this...
3 JR would also like to stress how he has complained at the highest level to the Football league about the poor level of referees that we have had to endure. From poor decisions –even with our win at Derby –and hence to poor decisions about penalties at Birmingham, Reading, Derby and against Wolves....plus other poor decisions – like the red card that did nt happen v. Wolves, the poor quality of decisions has probably cost us around 12 – 15 points...He sums it up as – we are suffering from the ‘small club syndrome’...refs don’t want to help us...but he won’t let it rest...we can’t legislate for all this bad luck - but we won’t let our heads droop!
4 JR would also like to thank everyone for all their support this season, but would like a few posters on the forum to just take a few minutes to reflect before they post – as some of the moans /groans / insults are poorly founded and it does hurt to see these posts - given all that has happened to the club over the recent past. Yes we don’t get it right 100% of the time – but we don’t have a huge staff – we work within tight budgets and we do listen, and we do try to improve.
I hope I captured all of John’s points this afternoon – but I think you get the general ‘gist’ of the conversation. We are fighting, we are actively searching to improve the squad, and we are not a selling club.
And - important !!....Please note we are not in the market to sell Brian Stock – it’s all press speculation – and it does not help things given our circumstances!
5 Finally a few points from me. Today we donated £3000 to the Rovers for the youth team / Centre of Excellence. You may have seen the presentation at the Plymouth game – I just wanted to check our books before signing on the line!. Thankfully a few deals that I did, plus a few late –but –welcome -annual subscriptions, and a few quids from our little Vikings car park enterprise has meant that we can buy £3000 of shares in DRFC to help the cause. Please remember to pay subs – and elbow a few who have not paid – please ! Last of all a few of us had a meeting with Dave Morris and Steve Uttley about the marketing plan / fans feedback from a few seasons ago....DRFC now have a new Marketing Manager – after a few disappointments ! – but now he is in place and working to sort out the communications issues we have between club and the fans – and we will meet up again in the new year to see how we can move things forward. I am happy to chat about this ‘stuff’ if you want to email me or add your thoughts about important issues / next steps.
So, sorry for the long email.
I hope its worth the read!.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year. And of course..a very merry, successful campaign over the festive period (and beyond) to our beloved Red & White wizards...starting at Forest !
    Cheers,
    Gareth

    I would've thought self-sustaining=financially stable

If their directors have had to put £1m in then shouldn't alarm bells be ringing?

A town their size and, 50 years since they last played at this level

their attendances are pathetic. they're average attendance last season was around 8000.

No & they shouldn't either. Kinell, what woud he saying if he'd lost his 1.2m striker for goodness knows how long after being assaulted on the pitch and his assailant go virtually unpunished.

Read again today that "cash strapped" Doncaster Rovers are hoping Steve Brooker will be fit again as soon as possible.

Sounds like the stuff Tomme Tyke used to ...

.... come back from Oakwell with after one of his cozy chats with Ridsdale, or was it Sean Lewis, and was it Silkstone Garage not Oakwell? Or was it Pete Doyle and his undercover decorating team at Hoylandswaine?

My memory isn't what it was.

Anyway, ... there's one born every minute.
