Long term reader, lifelong reds fan (37 years since first game) and occasional poster.....

There has been several posts along these lines and others around the lack of communication, PC's Facebook account updates, outcomes from the last meeting and people's personal views so thought I'd add my own. Everything expressed below is base purely on my opinion and is not based on any insight or gossip as I have no ties with the club

Everything that is happening and the comments that have been made coupled with the silence from the club and the CEO lead me to believe that the club are in a period of due diligence with a prospective buyer(s).

I saw a similar thing working for a private sector company whereby as soon as discussions start everything gets trimmed back - spending, communication, staff decisions and performance. Everything goes into a state of limbo and I think this is the only reasonable explanation to the 3 or 4 key things that we are all noticing:

    Total silence from the CEO
Cryptic comments from the current owner
No decision on the Managers position and no 'vote of confidence'
Lacklustre performances - people's minds being elsewhere.

There are probably a load of other indicators and of course there are the snippets that get added in here.

I really do hope something is happening, something that will re-ignite the passion of the club, players and supporters.

My son no longer wants to go to Oakwell. He's 11 years old and with the exception of a successful relegation battle 2 years ago has no idea what it feels like to support a winning team. He is so far detached from the club that I fear I'll be going alone from here on in. I can't continue to force him to attend when he'd rather be at home.

If we do not have new owners and a renewed drive and passion in place before the January transfer window I think we will meander to League 2 and revert to the dark days before I was hooked.

Sad and sorry times. Here's hoping

Might be onto something here. Any prospective new owner will want his own man in charge

I guess in an ideal world PC would retain some interest as a local, rich supporter and so would continue to benefit from the Stones sale but if he did want to benefit directly he would either still have to remain as owner until after any anticipated sale takes place or have the lawyers include any financial gain as an add on.

I'm sure the latter would be the most sensible option.

It's an interesting theory and something that has also crossed my mind. The absolute silence from everyone at the club, the blind continuation of Johnson as manager and the general reliance on loans & short term signings would all back up the theory.
Not sure I want to let myself dare to believe it could be true though.
    Here's hoping.... :)

"My son no longer wants to go to Oakwell. He's 11 years old "

And we'll lose more... kids like noise, singing, atmosphere...

Same with my lad an all.

Still wants to know the score when I get home so may not be totally lost - but he has absolutely no interest in going to Oakwell any more because: "We don't win any games. It's not just some, we never win any and I get bored" (he's just turned 8).

If I hadn't had 25 years and some good days behind me I'd probably feel the same!

I think that theory is probably pretty close to the truth, I've been through similar changes in business in the past and the signs are all there.

Are you on about that time when Mrs Outwin from packaging had a small win on the pools, and donated a new Tassimo Coffee Machine to the staff room?

PC has given pretty good clues over more than a year now that he would sell if he could. it is the most optimistic point of view to think that something of this nature is actively happening now, but the worst case scenario would be that PC does want to sell, but there are no prospective buyers. I am hopeful of the former and not the latter and this is said with every due respect to PC, as it is obvious a) that he has done a great deal for the club over his term of ownership and b) that he does want to sell, but to someone who will be passionate about the club and continue the ethos of most of our previous owners.

There is another similar but much more scary option.
That PC is walking away but not selling

    Could that happen?

That shouldn't be scary - the club ran for many many years with no "generous benefactor"

If PC gets the club in the situation where it runs itself he should be able to give the fans the club.

And being stuck with Johnstone until we get a windfall such as money from John Stone's sell on clause is simply a symptom of this new reality that we should get used to?

I heard she had a special place for it behind the door, in her carousel cupboard in her camper van. And she kept it on February, all year. She liked the selection of guitars, scattered across the snow. She actually bought a signed calendar with the remainder of her lottery winnings. Came with a complimentary souvenir bottle of Henderson's relish.

Thats the trouble at Barnsley , the club has drifted along for years and years now with an owner whos made it clear time a time again that he wants out so we're left following a club with no real leader, nobody at the helm driving it on and looking to the long term future.
