the guts and determinatin of the people in the paraplegic games, gets me every time. and we moan about headaches
at work I got an enquiry from the mother of a yound lad who is in a mainstream school, but has considerable physical & learning disabilities. He was looking for athletics clubs where he wouldn't get picked on for being different. To cut a long story short, I put him in touch with some of the clubs we work with, and invited him to our annual event. He won 2 Gold medals, and as a result is selected for the Yorkshire squad. I saw his mum as they were about to leave .... she was choked - just finding somewhere where he could be a success was brilliant for that family... and definitely one of the best moments working where I do. Yes I welled up (again!) The lad by the way has the potential to be a star - he's just turned 15, and if they re-admit athletes with a learning disability to the 2012 paralympics, he has a great chance of making an impact. Let's hope they do.
