anyone have any knowledge in this field as i need to get some tapes on to cd or onto my computer asap. any1 know of any way thts free of costs very little.
You'll need a tape deck with output slots, a cable that fits them slots and plugs into the microphone socket of your sound card (Maplins?). Next stop is some software to record and edit the tape output (I use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab) - chop it into CD tracks, that sort of thing. You can then export it as MP3s and burn 'em as audio tracks onto a CD.

Maybe, if it has an output socket that you can find a cable for. Portable ones might not, those that come with a stereo system should do. I've never copied tapes, just vinyl - the principle is the same but the hardware is different
Right, you'll need a tape deck with outputs and a cable similar to this one: The coloured ends will connect to your tape deck, the smaller one to the microphone jack on your sound card. That is job number one - when you have completed this mission, return to me for further instructions! I may have some, ahem, software "advice" that may assist you in your quest...
what are the wires that connect the pc to the tape deck/player actually called, then i know what to ask for??
Phono leads, audio jacks? Maplins stock a whole variety: http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?MenuNo=13576&MenuName=Connect!+-+Phono&FromMenu=y&doy=13m8
Can't help you there, mate - all that's the science bit which I don't get. All I know is that the ends of the cable have to be the right size!
