When we were in the prem, and just after the debacle that was the Liverpool match, we played Arsenal at Oakwell. It was a hard fought game, no quarter given by either side. Unlike Liverpool, Arsenal played like men. There was no diving, feigning injury or trying to get opponents sent off. I think we lost 2-1, we pretty close to relegation and the Barnsley crowd chanted “Champions, champions” to Arsenal as a mark of respect for the way they played. I had a genuine tear in my eye. After the match I made my way up Grove St to meet my son, and came across the Arsenal team bus. One of the players was sat in the driver’s seat, taking the autograph books through the window from the kids and passing them around the bus so the kids got all the autographs. Ever since then, I had a soft spot for Arsenal. After the ESL announcements of last weekend, I couldn’t bring myself to watch the Arsenal Everton match tonight. I was, for the first time since we played them, glad they lost. I won’t watch any of the so called top 6 ever again. I don’t think they know what they have done. Sorry to go on, but I think they might have just put a massive nail in footballs coffin.
Scary to think whst is going to happen to our game in the future mate that’s for sure. These clubs have scarred themselves and the game. I also couldn’t watch the game, if they wanted out then people should black them out.
Arsenal line up Seaman Dixon Keown Adams Winterburn Overmars Petit Viera Platt Bergkamp Anelka Shudder!
Fan power didnt or would never had let this happen nobody apart frm greedy people would want this and all us fans pay for it abeit in any form tv, turnstiles it'll never happen so there will always be a bus of that arsenal mate because after money players love to be loved.
The first half was pretty even, then just before half time, Bergkamp pulled an absolutely magical goal out of nowhere. Second half they were absolutely flawless in possession and game management. Overmars added another. A truly exceptional display from Arsenal, especially bearing in mind that in the second half of that season we were no mugs and were an extremely tough proposition at Oakwell.
Dont follow em remember we lost 3.0 at oakwell didnt merson go to line and pretend to snort it?long time ago we missed a pen liddle i think.
Arsenal should never be forgiven for the corrupt way they got into the First Division at our expense in 1919.
That’s a 102 year old grudge!! We forgave the Germans quicker and they tried to destroy our whole nation. Ironically, Arsenal haven’t been relegated since. I wonder how we’d have faired if it wasn’t for Arsenal’s corrupt insider at the FA.
Correct, mate. And next year it will be 103 years old, the year after that 104 etc etc. In the interests of clarity, I personally haven’t been holding the grudge for all that time
People have long memories of historic misdeeds. At a working men's club in Goldthorpe, there's a huge wooden board on the wall with names of scabs from the General Strike in 1926 carved on it. Some of the men had been forgotten and allowed in the club over the years. In 1984 at the start of the strike, one of them walked into the club and was immediately thrown out and told never to come back.
Interesting to listen to Souness after Arsenal v Everton game when he said the games in the premier league are becoming boring and safe and the refs not helping matters. I have to agree the only games that have been decent this season usually involve Leeds.
