Gone thru all the troubleshooters and restored system twice without luck. Daughter number 2 turned it off without shutting down I think. Retsored it once by using system restore but not working histime - any ideas please? Toshiba Qosmio running windows XP.
    Thanks

Wouldn't have thought that turning it off without shutting it down would do any damage to the sound.

You could try re-installing the sound driver which you may be able to find on here

unless someone else has any other suggestions.

I've found a deal of laptops have the recovery disk then a drivers installation disk as well, do you have the speaker icon down in the right hand corner by the time..... if so then the driver would appear installed.

Maybe a loose connection inside, if it caries on and doesn't get sorted there's plenty of USB speakers etc so not the end of the world,
