my dad is thinking about buying this laptop (I've literally typed the spec as he's read it to me over the phone) but the question is - is it any good!? and is there anything better out there??
I was steering him towards a Dell really - but their website confuses me! I don't know a great deal about computers really....
so - any help appreciated!!
please reply or PM me...
Toshiba Equium M50 - 164
533mhz
2mb cache
512mb ram
60gb
DVD/RW super multi drive
14" wide screen tft
microsoft XP
128mb intel 915gm express graphics
1 year free warranty
£649.99

It looks a reasonable buy. Looking at Dell's website, they do one with a bigger (15.4" screen and otherwise same specifications for £641 (Dell Inspiron 6000). So the Tosh isn't a bargain but it is in the right ball park price wise. I seem to recall Windy buying ones of similar spec for £500ish but I don't recall where from. Could be worth a PM.
cheers Revvie.... sorry to be cheeky - but is there any chance you could give me a basic spec that I could use as a guideline??
I'll have a look on Dell (think Windy got the Inspiron 5000 or something like that....)
oh and - if it's a DVD RW, does that necessarily mean it will write CD's too???

I'm posting from the new Dell lappy now, It's the Inspiron 6000 and with all the discounts (applied right at the end) it works out at £498. When you change the options you unclick the 3 yr warranty and change it to the 1 year one. I looked on a few forums and they were raving about it for the money. If you want to ring me Lynz I'll get their site up here and go throught the order with you if you like.
This the one? Dell Inspiron 6000 Pentium M 725a 1.6GHz processor 512MB RAM 60GB hard drive 15.4" widescreen display 8x DVD+/-RW 802.11g wifi Windows XP One year cover. £498 each.
RE: I'm posting from the new Dell lappy now, cheers D. I'll talk to you about it next Wednesday and then we can sort out a 'date' to go through it on the phone - if that's OK??
I need to talk to Dad, he's completely clueless at the tecchy stuff - and obviously I'm not much better either!
oh and I'll need to get his credit card number (and promise that I won't go shopping with it as well.... )
next question is - which wireless broadband is the best? (can't get telewest/blueyonder 'cos the cables aren't there yet...)

I don't remember posting that mate. I swear by the Superplonk and Streetplonk books by Malcolm Gluck.
