Just bought a new PC and am backing up the data files off my old one.

I want to copy all my contacts and e-mails from Outlook Express onto my new PC. Anyone know which folderthey live in and how to do it? Much obliged.

I can do it in Outlook Express with Windows XP. Don't know if the procedure is identical in Vista, and if you're not using OE, then I can't help you.

    Right

Back up your message files, mail account and address book as per this guide.

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/graham.a.newman/xptips.htm

Copy the backups to a USB stick or burn them to a CD or, if you have a network, set sharing permission on the backup folder and copy it across to the new PC.

If the guides for restoring the data don't work in Vista, let me know and I'll fire up the Mrs's laptop and have a look at Vista OE.

    Thanks for that

I'll give it a go and let you know how I went on later.

    P.S.

I'll back the folders up onto our young 'uns lap top in a shared folder on the network.

When I plug in the new PC will I have to creat a new network and if so any idea how?

    Not in Vista, no mate.

It should pick up the existing network connection no problem. If you make the new machine part of the same workgroup it should find the other machines on the network. After that I don't know.
