I've just been foolish and upgraded to Norton 2008 - I know I should have gone AVG, but I have to learn the hard way.

Installed the new Norton version and it's killing my CPU with a process called ccSVCHst.exe. Looking round on the net I've had a bit of light shed on what is causing this, so I've turned off Live Updates which seems to be the common cause. Even with LiveUpdate turned off I get the problem. The only thing that stops the ccSvcHst.exe process kicking of 5 minutes after rebooting my PC is uninstalling Norton completely.

If someone knows why this is happening some pointers would be appreciated. Alternatively a decent web forum where I can get some advice would help. I've found lots of forums, lots of people with the same problem, and no answers so far.

This is the last time I buy Norton

    Remove it. Buy Kaspersky.

There is no alternative. Kaspersky the most effective, least intrusive AVS I've encountered. Always found AVG a bit of a drain on the system, especially during scans.
