I'm getting 60 or so junk emails a day. We web host and all the emails are coming through with various names or groups of random letters before the '@' in the address.

I've run anti virus and spyware but it seems to make no difference.

    Any ideas ?

(simple explanations would be appreciated, as I'm simple !!!)

    Thanks

    Who does your email?

Whoever runs the email server should be able to check for spam mail - however, its not easy, the spammers are pretty clever and the more filters you put in to block their email the more chance you have of blocking good email.

Anti-virus and spyware won't normally stop spam (some do).

Which mail client do you use? If you don't mind changing, thunderbird is pretty good, free, and includes a decent spam filter.
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Otherwise, you might be able to get a plug-in for your existing mail client.

Do you read your email by going to their website/webmail?
If so I think you are struggling.

I think they offer pop3 access, but it would mean setting it up.

No idea about pop tray, but there are quite a few junk mail plugins for outlook express that should be able to help. I don't have experience of any, but surely somebody on here can recommend something.

Or as I originally suggested, try downloading thunderbird. It will replace outlook express, with built in junk mail filtering. It should be able to import all your old email and settings from outlook.

On BT mail you only need to glance down the list (quickly) and delete the lot in one fail swipe. No need for individual deletions.

true but after a weekend when there's over 220 in the inbox I have to at least review them to pick out the 4 from clients.

then just collect mail for the required mailbox(s)! Ignore the invalid addresses

They will just get returned eventually.
    Voila!

Or install a 3rd party collector prog or setup a rule to delete email where to address aint yours.
