I bought the DVDR 2005 last week while in Tesco for the giveaway price of £49. Not expecting anything much for that price I have been pleasantly surprised with its performance so far. However, there is one problem I can't sort out - anyone else got one of these? It has an auto tuner feature, just like a video recorder, and it happily found the five terrestrial channels. I cannot get it to recognise my Telewest cable box though, so can't record off there (yet). Probably something obvious but I can't see it - any idea anyone how I can get the the DVDR to recognise the box? All components are linked by SCART cables, with the terrestrial tv aerial plugged directly into the DVDR.
You should have an AV option to select the scart input - it will not see your Telewest box as a channel as it were and it will not allow you to record off differing channels without you manually setting the channel on the Telewest box. You recommend the recorder though? I'm thinking of getting one to offload some stuff from my Sky+ box.
No problem with the machine, apart from this cable recording problem. I must be able to record off there to the DVR cos I could record to my VCR. Just a question of how!! Yes I would recommed it - excellent for the price! If it only lasts a year or so it is a bargain at £49. If I can just get over this cable recording problem, I will be more than satisfied.
Do you choose a channel i.e. 6 to watch cable or does it auto come on as AV? It sounds like it's linked through a scart so it will appear as an AV channel. So to record there should be an Input selector on the DVDR remote, if you press this a few times you can toggle through the AV channels until you find your Cable. To set it up as a channel i.e. 6 you need to connect your Telewest to your TV via a normal rf (aerial) cable, that way you can tune it into your tv channel 6 and thus record from channel 6. This is easier but the quality tends to be pooer than scart. Best option.......SKY+!:-|
Comes on automatically as AV. Everything is linked so it is just a case of switching on. When I recorded from the cable to VCR I selected a channel on the VCR. There doesn't appear to be this option with the DVR - unless I am blind! Sky plus not an option - I need Broadband and the only way to get it in my house is my Telewest
Why does that mean Sky+ not an option? I've got Telewest for broadband and Sky+ I had TW for 2nd set with basic channels but got rid cause the boxes were ***** and now have Sky+ with multiroom. Anyway - TW are launching a PVR, a DVD recorder is no comparison to having a PVR.
Telewest PVR One for the near future. Wanted something right now, not just for recording current stuff but to copy recordings on tape to DVD. I've got loads of football stuff - highlights, goals, whole matches - on a number of tapes which will be redundant once I have transferred to DVD. Results good so far, for a cheap machine. As for Sky+, try justifying that in my house! I have to put up a verbal business case for every single innovation over the years (you know, essential things like a video recorder, a microwave, etc etc)
