I installed the BBCs i-player downloader, but when I restarted the computer internet explorer would no longer connect to the internet. I tried ******* about with things but got nowhere so I did a system restore to rectify the problem. Tried installing it again, but the same thing happened. Anybody know why and more importantly what I can do about it?
Don't bother with the Iplayer I've had problems with it as well.
In fact it doesn't ******* work at all anyway.

it's useless............ takes huge amounts of processor and you can't save to disc-I can record onto DVD from the TV but if you download something to the player you can't copy it -stupid
It's not really Because you can record to video or DVD for timeshifting purposes to watch at your convenience, they are giving you that facility by downloading to your PC, I can see the reason why they are then preventing you from making further copies of it.
but............... if I can record to DVD from the TV what is the difference if I want to copy the download to DVD?
Because you can record for your own use, so you are making one recording to put to dvd in order to watch later and they then expect you to delete that, in downloading to your PC you have made that 1 recording - subsequent copying to DVD they are probably viewing as being with the intention to keep it....which isn't in their interests.
RE: they then expect you to delete that ?????????????? For iPlayer - from the BBC website The programmes are free for UK licence fee payers, at high quality and with no advertising. Once you have downloaded a programme to your computer you have 30 days within which to start watching and seven days to finish watching it. After this time, the programme will automatically be deleted. Regarding recording from TV, I think you'll find that under the law you shouldn't keep it, of course people do and that doesn't get enforced, but then the BBC haven't been able to control it like they can with iPlayer.
same laws that were about when recording from the radio to tapes, you were only meant to keep them for a short period, but it was unenforcable.
Ok - what to do Buy a PVR e.g. Sky+ or a Freeview receiver with built in PVR You will then be able to record programmes for subsequent viewings! What version of Windows are you using, because for the iPlayer download I understand that you need to be running XP or later version.
Sorry Jay I thought you'd gone. I have no idea what you're talking about. I hope that sets the record straight. I'm thinking of growing my hair a bit though any tips?
Not much of a help .... ... but it works fine for me, on both an XP and a Vista PC and I haven't had any problems. I know it doesn't help but all the negative comments above made it out to be crap and it works fine for me. It doesn't replace a PVR but it works fine when you forgot something was on or you hear after the event that something was worth watching. Nice one BBC I say.
Re: "I tried ******* about with things" I wonder if the things he was ******* about with were at all related to his computer, or maybe he just started fecking about with the microwave and fridge!
Re: "I tried ******* about with things" When you put it like that it does seem a rather hit and miss approach to troubleshooting.
