I've had Mcaffee protection on my laptop and phone for ages now; my daughter says I don't really need it, is this so?

Depends. If you have windows 11 then protection is built in. Always used to use AVG on laptop and phone as it was free but no longer use them now

No it should have Windows defender built in - be careful as they stop updating 10 next year if that-s what you have. Windows 11 shouldn't be an issue

Think it's built into 10 but they will stop updates next year

Wasn't sure on 10 so didn't mention it in case and couldn't be bothered to Google it

No probs - not many know it stops next year which is going to cause issues. Going to cause lots of problems in schools especially as many have old machines

And related........ Virgin Media say you automatically have AV included if they are your ISP. I also have McAfee, but I'm wondering if I need it. Any views, folks?

I've got Norton built in with BT.

Not necessarily needed, but it never harms.

Sec vendors tend to be one step ahead of MS (Defender) in my experience. They will always tell you Defender doesn't quite do what their's does.

Depends...If defender is Scott Wisemanlike or Mick McCarthylike. I would suggest getting an anti-spyware as well
