sorry if you already know of this or if its been posted on here before. There is a telephone scam currently going on. The phone rings and you get a message to call back in order to organise a delivery date for a parcel. This morning while I was out I had such a call, my wife had just said there had been a message on the answer machine , unfortunately she took the number and deleted the message, knowing she had not ordered anything she assumed it was something I had and so just passed the message onto me THANK ****... I remembered something on face book about a phone scam and it set the alarm bells going. So I called BT and they took the number and tested it at their end... "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE RING THIS" I was told by the operator, its a scam and connects you to a premium rate line which is £300+ per minute. Fortunately neither of us had replied, I went on to contact Action Fraud, this is a thing the London Metropolitan Police are operating for all fraud stuff... they took all my details and acknowledged it was indeed fraud/scam and they had well over a 100 reports about it... some who had sadly called back the number the number is 08005875290 so please guys be warned it is a fake and if you get caught it will hurt severely financially
These scam numbers are getting far too regular now.Getting several a day not as severe as DT's but a nuisance all the same.
Thanks for the heads up but how in God's name is anyone actually allowed to set up a premium rate line that charges £300/minute!! surely this is something that could be stopped at source?
Re: well BT and the Fraud squad are well aware of it 0800 is Freephone https://www.gov.uk/call-charges
well go ahead and ring it then I recall on the warning on Facebook that the phone message gave a number and I seem to recall it was perhaps different to the one I got when I used 1471.... my point is that if you get a message on your answer machine, voicemail or whatever..... then be bloody careful. sorry for trying to be helpful pete sheeeesh
Re: well go ahead and ring it then Did do; BT pre-recorded message relating to texts telling me to visit BT.com for more information.
Re: well go ahead and ring it then You have to keep on your toes with these fracking scammers haven't you :nails:
You dont want to be doing that......its small enough without giving it away.......lol.... whooooooo matron your ever so naughty....i say......
Oh great. Here I am expecting a parcel with my new penis enlarger, and now I've found out that the number is a scam, so I'm going to be about a grand out of pocket, and, still in possession of a small willy. ******* ace.
Whilst youre waiting for it to arrive.... try irish chess same as normal chess the only difference is the bishop gets to jump everything.....
sorry I'm confused…. do you have a new penis that needs enlarging?? (in which case why didn't you just buy a bigger one to start with) or do you have a new, penis enlarger? what happened with the old one that the new one is replacing? didn't it work? or did it break from over use?? just wondering!!!!
08005875290 is a BT text to speech service / number. It's used when someone sends an SMS to your home phone number. Could be a spam message, but it certainly won't cost you £300 per minute to call the 0800 number.
yes I know that ST but BT and the Fraud Squad told me not to even call that other number. I did explain in the OP... but the likes of PlanktonPete etc are more concerned at tripping people up... but I was just trying to make people aware of such scams... in future I will not bother and just laugh at the tossers when they get scammed for hundreds if not thousands of pounds. I did explain that my wife did delete the message with the other number on and that's why I did 1471... and then asked Both BT and the Fraud squad to investigate.. BOTH of them told me they were aware of this scam This was actually put on FaceBook by an official source a few weeks ago... so when it happened to me(just the phone call that is... gladly I did not reply) I thought I would try help on here to hopefully stop it happening to fellow Yorkshiremen... **** em in future.
