Anyone on here a telewest customer now with Virgin Media? A mate has been unable to connect via dial up for the last month. Their website says they have been working on a connection problem in the Sheffield area since 14/9/07, but not sure whether Wombwell belongs to the Sheffield area as far as VM are concerned. Messed about ages yesterday checking all the connection settings which seem to be right.

You don't say whether he's reported it or not!

I'm on broadband and no problems.

Hers is dial up which is where the problem is in the Sheffield area. It hardly gets used and hasn't been an issue until now so hasn't been reported. She hasn't got a clue with anything remotely technical, so I just thought she'd messed something up - hence all the grief trying to get it to work yesterday. I've just checked their website and found the sheffield area problem. Is it likely someone from Wombwell is in their Sheffield area?

We are covered by Barnsley normally.

They say problems in the S73 or Barnsley area, so would say sheffield is what it says,,
What type of problem is it., could it be the modem, i replaced a few not long ago when the weather zapped them

It seems to connect okay, but when you try to use internet explorer you just get 'page cannot be displayed' andwhen you use microsoft outlook or try to download anAVGupdateyou just get 'cannot find server'. Was working fine up to 9th September (last time she updated her AVG).

It could be a windows problem, or at least a IE problem,

If there had been a problem with dial up for that length of time it would have got onto tech sites or even papers, you know how they love to slate each other, i've not heard of anything via news groups or anywhere else for that matter.

I'd put it down to a virus or malware or even AVG....... i did have one who installed AVG updates last month and it wiped all his .exe files.

    I'd do a reinstall
