Been saying for ages he should be given a chance. Looks a cut above in the academy. This lad is gonna go far.

Hopefully will get his chance and break through into 1st team end of this season beginning of next. Good luck to the lad nowt better than seeing home grown lads in the team. One thing Johnson hasn't done for me is give our lads enough of a chance.

Same can be said for lots of other youngsters at the club though such as Abbott, Cowgill etc

The few times I've seen him play, he's looked a cracking player. I dare say as good a prospect as Mason Holgate.

To be fair I thought the same of George Maris, however he seems to have slipped away again after what was a poor performance against Altrincham.

I just expected to square that ball, as we had a man over.

Then ****, he's planted it in the net.

    Fecking top drawer.

He has the same football arrogance that the likes of Stones, Holgate and Butterfield had when they came out of the academy, that fearlessness, self-confidence. Doing it on thi home debut though, wow...

This IMO is what is the difference to the ones that get that 1 million pound move. If you look at the confidence between Bree and Holgate then compare it to Smith and Cowgill, the first two look so much more composed when playing. and the other two look less confident. Smith has a player in him but i dont think he will be a Stones or Holgate. Hope Templeton can be the attacking version of Stones. will get us more money in that sense

Or he could end up like Carl Barrowclough. Ask your dad.

On this subject, what has happened to Digby, Abbott, Cowgill and Maris? Should be giving them a chance.

They should be given a opportunity but it's far harder with them as they aren't impact players apart from Maris.

Another good thing the clubs done is give him a chance when hes full of confidence and playing well

Cowgill can be no worse than Mawson or Nyatanga. Thought he did well vs p'boro apart from the mistake. Digby is a good player in a midfield 2 but unfortunately he is always played in the CDM role where he makes mistakes. Abbott did nothing wrong at the start of last season and was praised by Chester fans during his spell there. Brad declined a loan move to Finland for some reason. Maris has not yet been played in his proper position ST for the 1st team and needs to bulken up if he is going to make it as a CAM.

I think G.Williams, H.White and this lad from Ilkeston should all be given a decent chance too.

Hope it's the start of more gametime for the lad. All the garbage we bring in from other clubs when we could be playing one of our own.

I personally thought Carl Barrowclough was one of the most exciting prospects I'd seen in a long while. Just needed to bulk up a bit and he'd be a decent player. Whereas I was convinced Glynn Hurst was rubbish, would never make it, and we'd done the right thing in releasing him. Shows what I know. What happened to Carl in the end, any idea?
