Can anyone remember it? I work with loadsa Barnsley lads and theyve never heard of it. If you lived in Elsecar, hoyland, common, birdwell and worsboro it was the done thing to get off bus at Alhambra roundabout at ten bob stop or blockbusters as it also became known, and try and run up to top and get down before a) ya mum gave you a clip or b) you slid down it on your knees, which usually definatley resulted in a clip or c) come down it too fast and gettin knocked down on sheff road. In winter it were a right test of skill and balance. I went past it other day and it needs some attention. Cant believe council can let such a iconic piece of architectural history go to ruin. Im gonna go to next home game ont bus and have a go at it. Probably not same without my mother at bottom waving her hands and tellin me im getting nowt from 50p stall unless i get down, maybe i can get my mother to come on bus to watch reds wi me...
Same with rock up wood at opposite where west riding hat Co used to be spent hours climbing on that in fifties and early sixties all fenced off now health and safety I imagine
Aye I remember that. Used to love running up and down that when I was younger. Not really taken any notice of it for a while so not sure what state it's in. Lot of fun on that though.
Yep, called blockbuster and ten-bob stop because of hexagonal slabs. I rolled back down it and into the road many a time, never did me any harm. Kids are too caught up on video games and social media nowadays to indulge in any honest, healthy, life-affirming dare-devilry!!
