sorry if this as already been mentioned. But only 8000 Blackburn fans turn up last night agaisnt Millwall. For a chance to play at Wembly. - Shocking Support
Always said there isn't much difference between the size of these clubs........Bolton, Blackburn, Barnsley Then compare how long each has spent in the Premeirship
Agree. 8.635, and that includes away fans, must be worst ever crowd for a 6th round replay - then they say the FA Cup isn't dying on it's arse, really?!
Maybe it's Blackburn dying on its arse rather than the FA Cup. I think Barnsley fans showed they are still interested in the later stages with the amount we took to both Milton Keynes and Man City.
They wanted to charge a 5er a ticket but Millwall refused. Got nothing to do with the FA Cup - they're quite rightly f.cked off with everything that's gone off these past two years.
Disenfranchised. That said, we can hardly talk. We have a 2 PPG average under Flicker. Fighting for our lives, and still
Barnsley has over twice the population of Bolton and Blackburn with those two clubs having much more clubs for competition to draw fans from. With the population we have in Barnsley we are maybe one of the lowest supported home town clubs in the football league.
i'd really like to see some evidence of this as i really can't see that is the case. i was always under the impression that we weren;t a bad supported club for the size of the town. but if that is the case on that basis the support of the two dee dar clubs is a disgrace.
Wrong... Bolton 266,00 Blackburn 147,000 Barnsley (town 80-100,000 depending on where you draw the line), the Metropolitan borough figure is 220,000. Some of it is probably nearer the Etihad and Hillsborough mind. Surrounded by other clubs we don't do too bad. Leeds has a Pop of 750,000 though and they get 25,000? summat to do with the prices probably.
It's because the metropolitan borough of Barnsley is such a massive area and encompasses many small towns and villages. The population of the metropolitan borough of Barnsley is 224,000. However, the population of the urban area of Barnsley, that is the town of Barnsley, is only 73,500. For comparison the town of Blackburn has a population of 105,000 with the wider borough having a population of 140,000. The town of Bolton has a population of 139,000 with 262,000 living in the borough. Sheffield has a population of 551,000. There is no distinction made between the city and the metropolitan borough as far as populations go. The metropolitan borough of Sheffield is actually larger than Barnsley - 142 square miles compared to 127 square miles. So Sheffield has a bit over twice the population in the borough but supports two teams who both average considerably more than we do. Sheffield Wednesday have an average attendance of 23347. So 4.24% of the Sheffield population regularly support Sheffield Wednesday. Sheffield United have an average attendance 18209. So 3.3 % of the population of Sheffield regularly support Sheffield United. Barnsley have an average attendance of 10058. So 4.49% of the population of Barnsley regularly support BFC. That compares favourably with either Sheffield club, but they are both pulling their supporters from the same population so you have to add those figures together to find out how many Sheffielders support their local team. 7.54%. Of course, none of that takes in to account away supporters or people who travel from out of the area to watch any of those teams. Blimey, what the **** was all that about.
I believe Barnsley is 4th largest metropolitan district in UK it would be interesting to know how many locals support Leeds a big force in 70s and early 90s and how many support Man Utd today. In addition income per head is probably significantly less in Barnsley than either Sheffield or Leeds and Bolton. Blackburn probably has a similar level of economic prosperity.
some of those places have no sense of being linked with barnsley other than through the council chambers, places like thurnscoe, goldthorpe, bolton, thurgoland etc and indeed many support teams in sheffield from these areas. in the sheffield area ie woodseats and all other places its either wednesday or united
I can see where you are coming from here marlon, like you say the sheffield areas by and large support either of their two clubs, and not many,if any at all support Barnsley, whereas in Barnsley theres loads in the area that support teams from other areas,ie,wednesdays, blades, leeds, man u etc.... I'll bet there arnt many that arnt from barnsley who support barnsley fc.It always makes me laugh when I hear wednesday fans who are from Barnsley calling us dingles.
yep thats right dek. other point i was trying to make was that places like goldthorpe for instance have a large wednesday fan base and have never considered barnsley as a team to support. and they wouldn't consider themselves as dingles supporting wendy. whereas you wouldn't get areas in sheffield with a large support for a team outside the city.
did you know we arnt the only 'dingles' in the country? my mate is a life long burnley fan and blackburn and bolton fans call them 'dingles'.
