In-demand Phillips to hold more talks

West Brom are set to hold another round of talks with out-of-contract striker Kevin Phillips this week after Derby joined the race to sign him.

Phillips: Holding out for two-year Albion deal

Send to friend
Print
RSS Feed
Save to...
[*][IMG]Facebook [*][IMG]del.icio.us [*][IMG]ma.gnolia [*][IMG]Yahoo! Phillips' representative expects to meet with Albion's board during the coming days with a host of clubs waiting to discover whether the 34-year-old plans to extend his career at The Hawthorns.

West Brom hope to retain the experienced goal poacher next season after winning promotion to the Premier League but prolonged discussions over a new deal have failed to reach a successful conclusion.

The former Sunderland forward, who will turn 35 before the start of the 2008-09 campaign, is looking for a two-year deal which would conceivably take him to the end of his career.

But Albion have so far only offered Phillips a one-year deal - and that stand-off has seen a number of other clubs, including Derby, Barnsley and League One Leeds, linked with his signature.

However, Phillips' agent, First Artist's Phil Smith, is refusing to discuss transfer talks with any other side until West Brom have presented their final contract offer to him.

Smith said: "Until we've spoken to West Brom, we won't be holding conversations with anyone else."

Be Our Best Signing In Years If We Got Him

It would show intent from the board, he would help us sell more season tickets and we would sell more replica shirts etc. Also signing someone who's done so much in his career would make Barnsley look a more glamourous team to others. Lets have him signed and hope it's true (Y) (Y) (Y)

SO if I understand this - we cant pay Howard more than 5K per week

Philips cant agree terms with WBA in the premiership so he might sign for us

We are definitely in bearing the arse on town hall steps terrirory here

    It's the length of contract

Phillips wants two years, WBA only offering one. I think they'll reach some agreement though, why would he snuff the chance to play in the Premiership for the last time?
